Technical Turbo'ing Burple!

Why would you think you need an extra pump? A pump does not dictate pressure, the resistance dictates pressure hence why if you stick your thumb over tap you can get water to shoot across the room, no one incrased the flow off water from the main, all you did was increase pressure by making the same flow of water pass through a smaller hole.

The pressure regulator only pressurises upstream as once passed it can't, much like your thumb over the tap, so the return from first regulator set at 3bar goes to 2nd regulator set at standard pressure which is anything from 0.8-1.2bar on these car according to Fiats data.

This is why they need to be plumbed in series and not parallel as if they are plumbed in parallel the fluid will always take easiest route which would be through the lower rated regulator.

blah i think i get it (had a long day doing math on this exact stuff)
i guess its mostly to do with the amount fuel pumps flow more then anything.

i thought it more like this

fuel pump is connected to a long line connected to a regulator. with the regulator set at 1.5bar it bleeds off excess fuel to keep the pressure in this long tube at 1.5bar (this is correct.)
so i thought putting a T on this line with a 3 bar regulator would just flow out at the 1.5bar.
I also thought for a bit that maybe its after the 1.5bar regulator but then that would make the line before it jump to 4.5bar lol.
think i was mixing electronics into plumbing then :p

oh well my bad. FAIL accepted. *goes to bed*

By 'eck, this thread is starting to make my head hurt

This is what i call a proper thread, no dreamers, will be finished and people chipping in to make sure any short comings are addressed

now... will a uno turdo engin fit, ow many Blue keys shud I av & will 20 inch rims fit wiv my fook ov exost :p

I think if we have as many bike engine cinqs as people say they would make, we would have over 100s!!

Minor update

Managed to get the turbo housings spun this morning, and also bored out the flange to take the studs.

One manifold stud removed, the others look welded in, so its off to the machine shop later.

Now working on the sump.

Cheers

It has an oil return from the Turbo to be fitted.

The kit came from an 1108 and the sumps look identical. The 1108 modified sump fitted on with all but three of the bolts, and no amount of stretching would make it fit, so the 1242 one, that was taken off non too gently, now needs staightened and the oil return fitted.

Its steeping in a bath of degreaser at the moment.

Cheers

Hi SPD

Too far for a large 'rat tail' file?

Not every one will have a torch man, or want to tap for a union

how hav or how are you going to modify the engine to deal with the turbo. are you goinn to get low compression pistons or are you getting a decompreession plate with the two head gaskits. soz if that doesnt realli make sence but i hav been thinkin about turboing my 1242 for a while but i have been told that i would need to get new pistons or lower the compression in the cylinders using a decomp plate with two gaskits. still luvin ur car btw u need te get a video of it fired up on youtube wen u get the turbo done

For a couple of psi of boost the standard CR should suffice. The low blow (0.3 bar, 4ish psi) vAD kits didn't touch the engine internals (machined pistons/ decomp plates etc.) IIRC.
