Hello all.

so, ive been thinking. What kind of tuning work can be done too a 500 engine?
I know the standard thing is to fit a fiat 126 engine, but how far can you bore one of them to?
Lighter cranks, valves, more aggressive cams, domed pistons?
carb wise, can you fit motor bike cars, throttle bodies?
Oil coolers?
Project in mind and want to get the most out of one of these little engines and tune it to the max! :slayer:

Anyone help?
Thanks

Aaron

Evening Aaron;
There are a number of sites that you can peruse to help you with your project. Firstly, the 652cc (126) engine can't be wisely bored out any more, as they can get very thin at the bottom of the barrel, risking it breaking off. To go any larger (in capacity) you need to start with a 126 crank-case and bore out the barrel apertures to accept bigger barrels. For road use, a well tweaked 652cc engine, 695 at the most, will give a strong engine well able to keep up with modern traffic. Go any bigger, and you can start to have balance problems and the risk of 'grenading' the engine increases proportionally. As well as trolling the various forum sites, the best tuning sites that I can recommend are:-
(1)---Forza Fiat 500
(2)---Blitz racing--tuning the Fiat 126 engine
(3)---Fiat 500 into Abarth 650 Lusso
(4)---U-Tube---Abarth 1.5 (and onto part 8 for the whole project)
(5)---Book---Four-stroke performance tuning, by A.Graham Bell

All the parts you will need can be obtained from a variety of suppliers, some on the continent, some in the UK (including pistons/rods from 'Pure Performance' in Australia).
I would recommend that you spend goodly amount of time doing your homework before commencing with the project. Where do you live--there is bound to be a forum member not too far from you who can 'hold your hand'. Best of luck.

engine number

Hi
Hope all is well,, I am wondering if any one could help by reading the engine no,, could any one tell if the engine is a 499 cc or 594 cc
My car is 1967 fiat 500 f but on my log book of the car it says it's 594 cc
I think by taking the cylinder head out you could tell from the piston size,, but taking the head out is a bigger job,,
Thanks for now

Hi Tim;
Your engine number will tell you; if it is a 594cc engine ( 500R or early 126) it will start '126A'----a 500 engine will start '110' (479cc),'110D' or '110F' (both 499cc). The engine number is located at the n/s (left side) of the rear of the engine, just to the left of the rear, central engine mount.

Hi
Yes the engine no. start with 110F ,, so there must be a mistake on the car Peter work ,,,
Will how it goes,,
I think if I need to upgrade my engine,, I should take engine out and start ordering part for it,,,, but I wish I keep driving it and at the same time order parts needed to have a bigger bore,,,
So if I order parts for the engine I have to tell them is a 110F is that right ,,, .?.
Well thanks it's been already a great help
Tim
