Technical Thule roof rack fitting issues..

Hi there, new to the forum and have had a 500 since July - 2012 Street! Technically its my wifes car but I like driving it also.

We are going away and there isn't much boot space so as I can borrow a roof box I looked into the options of roof rack and amassed the Thule kit - gave the car a thorough clean and wax and just spent a very frustrating few hours trying to fit the damn thing - a scratch on the roof later and it was close to gong in the bin

Does anyone here have one and able to help - I have been measuring twice etc but just having so many issues getting it all to sit together as for a start there is no way I can see the front measurement for front screen to foot can ever be 225mm so unless I am doing something very wrong I'm just lost.

I haven't fitted my roof racks yet but I bought some for the summer holidays. The only thing I can think of is that there are two different fitting kits, one for the standard roof (kit 1611) and the glass roof (kit 1856). Perhaps you have the wrong kit for your roof?.

I defi have the right kit (1611 + 754 + 761 + 774) and I just think the measurements are open to a bit or interpretation...

I have got it on now, it was a complete pain but while I had measured exactly the spacing it needed a couple of mm for the rubber pads to fit perfectly and when I did that I could just get the problem bits on - one side really easy and the other was more of a struggle but its on now and feels rock solid!

On the 1611 kit the space from glass to foot is given as 225mm and there is no way it can sit there as the foot bit has a pin that does in a hole in the 500 shell - it would be at a right angle to get the foot 225mm from the glass!

Great to hear that you got it all on in the end. Good to know it's a pita to fit so I guess that's something I will have to look forward to when I go to fit mine.
