Finally fitted my new Thule roof box, really pleased with it. Thanks to the Journey Centre for supplying it? ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1455964181.167648.jpg

Thanks Deeyup, this box is slightly bigger than the one I wanted, the smaller one was too wide so it wouldn't sit on the bar. This one is bigger and sits properly. Thanks for the tip, will have to be mindful of the height! ?

Height is very easy to forget. I don't know if you have drive through bottle shops in England, but I was in one and the assistant was telling me about the number of cyclists who have driven in with their bike on the roof, forgotten about the height and... well, you can imagine what happened. Your box obviously isn't as high but if height is an issue, merely 'remembering' won't work. I'm not sure what the answer is, but this is one reason I no longer carry bikes on the roof of my car (that and having removed leaves from brake levers after a trip... and that was on a car that was lower than the Panda).

I wonder what a yellow roof box would look like on a yellow Cross? :chin:

I reckon the wedge-shape thereby created would make the Cross look like a demented giant piece of Cheddar! (y)

Yummy!

Very nice and the black suits the yellow of your Cross really well. We have a Thule Atlantis 200 which looks to be an equivalent size (~440L) - it's amazing how much volume they provide. We bought it back when we had a Mini Clubman S and first had our eldest (and needed to accommodate all the baggage of parenthood!). It coped admirably! Subsequently, we up-sized to a big S-Max, but we bought Thule bars for the Panda when we got it, so we could use it with the roof box for longer, fully laden journeys if the weather was poor. It ideally would sit a little further back to push the nose behind the top edge of the windscreen (to reduce drag/noise to a minimum), but then the boot may clash with the rear of the box when open. As it is, the aerial just rests against the underside/rear of the box.
As others have said - watch out for height barriers and be conscious of staying under your roof weight limit! Enjoy your new-found extra capacity!

Thanks for that, this one is the Thule Ocean 200, the 100 was too wide to fit on the bars, but pleased with the extra capacity, can't wait to try it?

Yes - we were advised to go for Thule Wingbars, as opposed to the Wingbar Edge variant, as the latter did not supply sufficient flat bar-width to fit our Atlantis 200 box on. I have clocked my head a couple of times strapping the lads into their car seats, but at least we didn't have to fork out for a new top-box...!;)

You bought a roof box to carry your first born?
Most people would put the baggage on top and let the kid travel on the back seat
When my son was six weeks he was in his car seat thing (25 years ago now!) and I put him on the roof to sort stuff out in the car and then drove off with him on top (Citroen BX Gti). I got ten yards along, just shifting into second gear when I had this mini heart attack on remembering where I had left the baby! He was asleep fortunately (much like myself I think!) and my wife was not with me at the time.....so a roof box for a baby seems pretty secure !

Lucky that the BX's suspension would have wafted him along so smoothly! We loved our BX GTi 4x4. If only they hadn't made them out of Camembert.
