I see that the press release says that this version is aimed at 'young and dynamic customers'.

Well that rules me out on both counts. :p

It looks quite smart, but I think even my twenty year old daughter would be embarrassed to have 'Young' plastered across the vehicle.

Actually, the more I think about it, some so called young person getting their first new car would not consider themself young. They would think themself as grown up so this name is not a good idea.

I'm trying to think back to when I was getting my first new car- a Fiat 127- and I'd have hated that badge.

Love the styling but got to agree can't see 'young' appealing to their target audience

How about 'epic' (y)

It's typical of how "trendy" car names/designations don't work across international markets.

It's quite hip ( that gives away MY age) on the European continent to use English names- even "classic" cars are called "young timers" from Holland to Italy

The worst mis-naming that springs to mind in past years is Ford's "Probe" coupe- launched in the US market it sounded dynamic and thrusting- launched later in the UK it sounded like a painful medical procedure!!!!

Very good point. Not sure this one will be coming to the UK anyway, so it's all academic IMO.

I do kind of like it though and I don't mind the colour scheme either:)

Oh yeah, what's with the glovebox?!! Bit random!

One name that did not translate well was the Nova from Vauxhall.

If you know your Spanish you'll know why.

It seems they've deleted the cover, i.e. it's now just a shelf :(

The whole car looks a bit stripped-down in spec. which probably
means it's priced low for its intended market: young people!

Not a bad move as this means the 'normal' models are less likely
to be devalued. I presume the mechanicals are as the Easy 1.2?

I like the colour scheme with the yellow highlights, however I couldn't buy one personally as I'm most definitely not young!

Fiat seem to be doing an awful lot of special editions these days. They're treating the Panda in a similar fashion to the 500.

It's normally a means of shifting models that have lost their market appeal,:(

look back at the brava / Uno/ + last of the boxy panda's.

they all had LOTS of "limited editions";)

Looks to be a reasonable proposition for an entry level car - make the young logos a delete option and I'd see it selling to all and sundry.
I expect it is Fiat's way of countering the impact of the i10 etc that are stealing sales from the lower end of the range.

I wonder if it's coincidence, but there was a special edition of the Mk2 Panda 750, in the late '80s, I think (1987, in fact), also called the Young. I wonder if this is a subtle tribute...?

PS: 1990 spec, here.... (y)

This would have done well in the UK I think, but as others have said the name is a killer for over here. It also implies the other pandas are for 'old' people, which is how many people view the panda anyway. Renault tried a similar marketing slant for their Modus, and that didn't do so well either. Think their slogan was 'grow up? What for?' with a car aimed at parents. People are all for feeling young, but they don't want to scream to people that that's what they want, looks desperate!
