Hi all,

This has been bugging me for a while - what is the modification that 4X4 Panda's have to get that extra 5BHP?

5 horse power is more than you get from one of these naff induction kits but I can't think of any other subtle mod.

My plan would be then to scavenge the scrapyards for an rusty 4X4 and acquire the appropriate part. OK - a long shot I know!

Thanks in advance,

Martin

Fix It Again Tony!

Right...old 4x4s were equipped with the old 956cc pushrod engine, you can find it on the A112 too!Newer models are pushed by the 1108fire (54Hp) unit;)

the 4x4 has a different camshaft and carburettor.
My handbook gives:
inlet opens 2d. B.T.D.C.
Inlet closes: 42d A.B.D.C.

Exhaust opens 42d B.B.D.C.
Exhaust closes 4d A.T.D.C.

The respective values for the ordinary Panda are 1, 19, 29 & -9.

The carburettor is a Weber 32 TLF 8/250 Single.
It also has breakerless ignition in all models.

In addition the gearing is completely different, and much lower. It is perfectly possible to drive in town in fourth gear, and one has very rarely to move from fifth gear on the motorway. My best consumption was 55miles/gallon on a drive from Germany to London on one tank.
Current milage on mine with first engine ( two headgaskets ) is 212000 miles.

We got one of our 4x4's shifting with a metal mesh air filter fed from a roof inlet, splitfire plugs, a good fuel filter a encine set-up . It's a 999 with 104,000+ on the clock.

HHmmmmmmm
