Tech spec now up on Fiat.co.uk website - might have been up before.

From what I read is it an overbored 1910? 83x90.4 vs 82x90.4

Seems it's good for an extra 15bhp, a whopping 55Nm more, max torque @ 250 rpm less, 0.8 off the quoted 0-60, 10 off the CO2, 2.9 extra MPG combined.

All for no increase in kerb weight.

But it seems to suggest an increase of 3 insurance groups! Group 13!

In fact they had it since late thirties, but due to WW2 the project was suspended. Resumed in 1956, it took them 50 years to complete. Which is normal, this is a very sophisticated engine...

:D

Theres something else I didnt know... 50 years does still seem a long time even for Fiat though.... maybe they had the idea in the 30's but couldnt engineer it until the electronics for control became available.

No, it's true. Why do you think Hitler united with Mussolini? He just didn't want the engine to go in wrong hands. Back then he already knew Golfs will need a good diesel engine...

:ROFLMAO: Nice.... good forward planning lol!

for countries like mine that don't have such gangbanging/raping tax policies it's a gorgeous engine to have...

Amen to that... hope it stays that way for you (tax stuf)

tax for diesel cars (only one rate for all personal diesel vehicles) is around £90
petrol cars pay half of that for tax.

Well "our" good old Mr Brown will do all he can to bring the whole of Europe down to the same level fiscally as he has in the UK if he gets his way. Then you can kiss goodby to all that cheap tax nonsense...

well, good thing that I'm not in europe then :)

LOL

To be fair that was an assumption on my behalf, but I see nothing to show me otherwise in your details sorry. But believe me, today the UK, tomorrow Europe... then on to the whole World.

Gordon Brown even misquoted himself in Parliament recently stating how "he had saved the World..." FFS....
