Hi guys. Stripped my engine down a little bit today, and when I took the inlet manifold off I found a lot if white, almost sandy partials in the inlet ports.
Also my manifold has 3 water ways where as the head only has 1?
It's a 1242cc punto mk1 block, the manifold is an alloy one off I'm assuming a panda and I think the head is a P60. The engine is on a weber carb too.
I was wondering what head has 3 water ways? As I would like the engine cooled as much a possible due to there habit of overheating.
I didn't know whether to put this in panda or cinq/sei section as the engine is out of my panda but most the engine is spi FIRE.
Here's some pics

Thanks guys

Personally I would find the cause of it overheating first. The manifold looks as if the ports are smaller than that on the head. If you still want to keep the carb I would get a p60 mani and make an adaptor plate, shouldn't be too much of a fef.

The manifold may have been for another car, with the intension of using three waterways. It's just they never got around to doing it. It is a recipe for disaster to keep using that mani, due to the waterways being so close to the inlet ports.

Judging by the colour of the waterways and the engine block, the cooling system may be full of rust, that is what would cause you're overheating. I bet the rad is chock full of crap. A good flush and a 50/50 mix of fresh coolant should help.

I would replace those manky looking core plugs while it's out too.

White particles sound like aluminium oxide. Alu isn't immune to corrosion. Especially with how manky it all looks. Damn good clean, and a quick fettle, should get you going again.

Huwbishop thanks for the reply. The radiator was completely full of crap! The block, head and internals are being steam baked next week.
I will try and source a manifold this week, I've heard uno 45 manifolds fit with some porting (which I have the facilities to do) so I'll go for that I think as they were designed to run a carb.
And I ordered a full gasket set, thermostat, plugs and leads too.

Top man, do what you can to keep them running. (y)

So many people driving ordinary boring fords and vauxhalls. We have to keep the little Italian gems going to show them what there missing out on.

I've heard about the uno mani as well. However never been able to find one.
