S/S should come with all the F500 models now unless it's different in Greece. I remember Ahmett didn't get it but I thought that was just a case of the dealer 'pulling a fast one on him'. Despite all the 'talk' on the FF and the Poll result for the majority it does appears to work most of the time. For urban crawlers it should save between 3-4mpg.

Yeah in Greece the SS doesnt come as standard from what i see at least on the 1.4. to be honest consumers here dont know any better (including me i should have raised this issue with the dealer before buying the car!) so it costs fiat less to trick their customers since they probably dont even know what SS is!

I would have loved to have it to be honest athens traffic is not known for being good!

This is why you are given a brochure which states in detail all of the available extras! I was aware of the S&S but i didn't want it. I got well informed from the sales rep (at least me) and from this bunch of brochures he gave me.

Yeah also fiat makes more money by having the start stop as an extra. They cant fool the Brits as much though, the market there is more competitive = ) Also, higher sales so lower profit margin!

Great, had my car for 18 months and no S&S problems at all, as soon as I offer a bit of advice on it...boom...."check engine, Sart & stop unavailable" with engine light and exclamation mark triangle lit up....

*sigh* that'll teach me to keep my typing to other topics.....

I'm fairly confident that the theory of low battery charge is what's causing my problem. On Friday, i drove out of central London towards the M1 and the engine didn't stop once (i must have stopped 50 times). Then when I got off the M1 after 10 miles, the engine stopped.

This morning the start&stop was working a fair bit, but a couple of times I heard a solenoid/relay sound from behind the passenger side of the dash. After that click the engine didn't stop until I gave it a reasonable run then it started stopping again.

I think I'll put a few more miles on the car (just done 1,100) and see if it magically fixes itself, otherwise it's back to Fiat for some pain.

You'll probably need to do a battery condition/charge whilst the car is disconnected from it, so it can 'float' up to full charge.

As you say, let Fiat fix it, I find that in the colder weather, mine takes a wee bit longer to warm up fully before it starts stopping (as it were), and as I tend to use the car only at weekends, it takes a little bit to build up a full battery charge.

as people have already said, there is not enough charge in t
he battery for it to stop. there is nothing wrong. mine does not kick in when I have my xenons on, which at this time of year is mornings and evenings to and from work. If on the rare occasion it does kick in then it fires back up after only moments. The winter months will have this effect. Come summer all will be well again. (y)

it is ok it is that your traveling time is to short it doesnt have time to charge i recomend that you turn off the start stop for about 5 miles a day so it can charge
