General Steamy Windows

General Steamy Windows

My front screen clears quick, its the side windows that stay steamed up.

I either have to put the window down and back up again, then it clears.

I have found a solution though - just told the kids to stop breathing when in the car.

So, what is the recirc settting on the dash, ie, which way, left or right? which is best??

There will be one recirculation setting showing the air recirculating in the car and one showing air coming into the car. Use the one with the air coming in for best effect. But just remember you little buggers are breathing out moist air which will condense on the windows. Just the nature of the beast really.

The air con will not work when the outside temp is < 4*C. This is because the evaporator (cold bit) would freeze, block up, and stop the flow of air into the car.

Air con demists the windows because it dehumidifies. Air can then, particularly when heated, absorb water condensed on the glass.

When the car is turned on, if A/C was running when last driven there will be water on the evaporator. As it takes a few moments for the coldness to start working (or it might not at all if too cold outside), this will end up on your windows.

Your Audi very probably has Climatronic fitted, which is an excellent system. The approach it takes to counter this is to direct air using the lowest fan speed through the footwell vents when first turned on. If it's in heating mode it will then redirect to the windscreen on a medium fan once the engine is warm enough to provide some demisting effect. It will then redirect to the footwell once the engine is warm enough to heat the car on a highish fan, before finally settling on a foot/face combo once set point is reached (in heating mode that is).

Try mirroring that approach (and as stated avoid the recirc button) and you should be OK. Possibly there may be a leak around a door seal - have you checked for any dampness on the carpet?

NB the fiat's climate is pretty basic and just keeps it in footwell mode in heating season.

HTH, Cheers
