Hi there. I had the engine out of my Fiat during the winter and didn’t get a photo of how the starter hooked back up. There are two wires (big and little) and a U shaped clip. How to the wires hook up in relation to the clip?

I started the car for the first time and I continue to hear the high pitch whine of the starter while the car idles. I suppose it could be a problem elsewhere (not the wiring), but my uncertainty about the wiring made me suspect this was my error.

Here are the scans of the official POLISH 126p workshop manual. I have no idea if your starter comes from the Polish 126p, or the Italian 126, they might be different. The connections diagram on the 1st scan is a test connection for bench testing. However you might find out how it should be connected on the car.
There is a troubleshooting guide on the last page.

The text are in Polish, but you can use Google Lens app to translate it live. The translated text can be marked / copied / pasted into a note, an email, a document.
This workshop manual should be available in the downloads section of the forum. There is a possibility there are also workshop manuals in English available. Link to the download section can be found on the bottom of the forum banner.

Thank you. Not sure it’s the starter at all now. Just a loud high pitch wheezing noise. I can’t pinpoint it

If it is the starter it will soon self destruct if stuck in as starter turns engine at around 400 rpm , so when engine revving much higher and starter jammed in it will quickly fail due to massive revs. I have seen this on many makes of car with faulty ignition switch.
If not the starter then maybe generator bearings or the cooling fan touching the cowling.
Should be easy to locate noise by careful use of a long screwdriver held to the ear and different points around engine.
Do be careful near moving engine parts !!!
