2 policemen in a T5 sat in a lay-by using a speed camera is pointless, it's not worth their time, not when a camera can effectively do the same job more cheaply.

Works round here, I just think traffic cops are a better deterrent than speed cameras.

I tell you what though, once you are observant enough a speed camera will never catch you.

The only things that catch me doing things are CCTV cameras as they are everywhere and cannot be avoided. Previously I thought they were used to look for offences like attempted robbery, rape, drug trafficing etc but no... look, a guy in a Tipo doing a U-turn we can get £50 for that,... DO HIM!

Speed cams are good for slowing you down breifly at a dangerous section of road, apart from that they are useless.

I have a real heavy foot and have been driving + speeds since I got on the road, never had a speeding ticket because I am generally very observant.

The only ones that wil ever catch me are the ones that someone is holding while standing behind a 'Bus Stand' or 'McDonalds in 100yrds' stand.

Put them in proper places where they will actually be useful, get rid of them otherwise.

I think that permanent camera's in dangerous area's are a good deterrent as people do slow down. The trouble is that we have a main road with a couple of schools on, which has no camera's and everybody speeds past. About a mile away there is a dual carriageway with crash barriers both sides and pedestrian walkway overhead and yet there are two camera's, that's where camera placement seems to contradict safety with revenue.

You get them hiding behind the trees in Richmond park where they jump out infront of you,scares the bloody life out of you However the 'fear' of them 'maybe' being there is a good enough reason to keep the speed down...then again so are the deer sleeping in the middle of the road

There's a speed camera near me which is in a stupid place, right after the camera there is a pedestrian crossing. I wonder how many people are concentrating too much on their speedo and go through the red light there :chin:

I see that a lot. We have one fixed camera in the town - you see people concentrating on their speedo rather than the road ahead. Even I have to admit I'm making sure its under the 40 limit more than I would normally.

I have now also signed it (Sorry for bumping an old topic, but only just found it).

After doing a lot of reasearch into Speed Cameras and doing a lot of thinking, especially after reading about all the revenue they are making from wrongly placed cameras etc.

As has been said, there are better ways than just putting speed cameras everywhere. I stick to the speed limit, but I still don't like them.
