I own a Fiat palio a.k.a stilo. The car has vibrations at idle. I do not know the history of timing belt change. It could also be a bad timing. I pulled out the spark plug cap and the wire to check the resistance. The values as follows
1 cylinder - 34 Mega ohms
2 cylinder - open circuit
3 cylinder - 18 kilo ohm
4 cylinder - 22 kilo ohm

What is the cable+cap resistance for the 1.6 engine. Does the bad wire cause vibrations only in the idle and smoothen while accelerating.

VJ

Thanks Peter for the link.
For Fiat Palio 1.6 i can see 40424 for 8mm cable. Does this mean resistance in ohms?

OP, the resistance of HT leads will be X ohms per cm of lead.
Your longest lead would, I assume be for #4 and the shortest lead for #1 with #2 & #3 often being the same length.
If, for example, lead 1 is 30cm and lead 4 is 45cm then the resistance value of lead 4 should be 50% more than lead 1.
As your resistance values are all over the place I think it would be best if you simply bought a new set of leads.

BTW, the number 40424 is their reference number, it means...

4 = cylinders
0 = 8mm lead
424 unique reference number (for the toyota RAV4, the palio is 425)
as 47425 is 7mm and 45425 is 8.5mm

Thanks. Got it. I will go for new cable + NGK spark plug.
But one question if the cable values are all around wonder why the engine is not missing beat at higher rpm. I do get cyclic vibrations for every 2 secs at idle. Earlier it idles around 800ish but currently its ticking over around 650 rpm.

According to the NGK site 1.6 uses BKR5E . There is one more type plug G power BKR5EGP. Anyone used this G power and how good it is for 1.6 engine.
