After just a week of ownership, someone reversed at full pelt into the side of our 500, causing damage to the lower section of the passenger door. Devastated.

Looking at other 500s, and parts on eBay, we're hopeful that the "door skin" will be all that needs replacing. The upper half of the door is fine, but it would appear that the 'door skin' attaches to the main door... hoping we won't need an entirely new door. Also hoping they'll get the colour match right, but there's the added fiddle of the side rubbing strips - of course these aren't standard on a 500 door. I'm sure the body shop (the one we're taking it too is highly respected in our area) will get it right, as it's their job - I'm just worrying as the 500's door isn't the simplest thing in the world, specially when there are additional side rubbing strips to think about!

Anyone else had the misfortune of having someone drive into their prized 500?! Iffy feeling indeed! I hadn't even got around to posting pictures of it yet! Hope we're all having a good evening :)

No car has an upper and lower doorskin, it's just one skin. Think of it like a wall with a dado rail on it, there's no upper and lower wall, it's just a wall, it's just a wall with a dado rail on it. Unless I'm very much misunderstanding what you're saying.

Far better just to get a door off a wrecked car tbh.

I would agree with Maxi on this one. I have some idiot who opened his 4x4 door into a car of mine causing a big crease that couldn't be fixed. I have the skin replaced. Whistled like hell. Ended up getting a new door (Fords are fairly cheap for parts). Re-sprayed. Job done.

I was talking about this: http://fiat-500.sgpetch.co.uk/pages/parts/detail/category=ROOT-body/engine=41/part=4229 As in you can buy the door skin (the metal part of the door) separately, instead of an entire door.

Anyway it turns out that the entire door does need replacing. Not getting one off eBay because it's going through insurance etc - the woman who crashed into us has admitted liability. She did hit the car at considerable force.

Shame it was a new car but this stuff happens daily... no car or no person is immune, just some are luckier than others. It's one reason why you pay your extortion fees... wait sorry... It's one reason why you pay your Insurance Premium. (y)
