Hi All, I have a 2005 (2nd Gen) Fiat Ducato Camper.

I have an issue with the sliding door not shutting tightly and letting in water when it rains at the top of the door. The top doesn't seem to pull in very far. If you don't get it just right, the rain comes in quite a bit. I've tried adjusting the door but can't seem to find any way to pull the top in.

My van only has one sliding bar at the top. I've adjusted this as far in as it will go and it's not helping. I also tried adjusting the stay pin but that's not helping as it's sometimes missing the guide (see photo).

Is there any trick to getting the top of the door to pull in tightly? There is adjustment at the bottom but that looks fine and I don't think will help the top?

Thanks

Hi,

Your third photo _145115 shows a faulty front guide socket for the sliding door. This defect will not help to the door to pull in at the front. Please note there are two different versions of this part. Yours seems to be the same as that on ny 2006 x244, having only a narrow ridge between the socket for the plastic cup, and the edge of the metal base, lower example in photo.

I was able to obtain the correct part from Coastal Motorhomes for about £11.

OK, now the back latch is not engaging.

Why is this not free to move upwards when the door is closed? Only way to make it engage is to hold the door handle open whilst closing the door. I am assuming that's not correct, so what's going wrong with it?

I would assume that as you close the door, the pin on the frame would engage with this and lock into the stay. But, because it won't move up without the handle held open, it's just jumping out.

Thanks for the reply. If you mean the side bit where the metal has rubbed off, that was my fault after I adjusted the pin. I moved it out slightly thinking it would help pull the door in more, but it just missed and caused the damage you see.. I've since moved it back to where it was.

I think part of the issue is the back latch and pin are not engaging correctly. Unless I shut the door whilst holding the handle open, the back latch doesn't move when the pin tried to enter and causes it to jump.

Non technical reply here lol. Have you checked the door seals are in good order? As they perish they stretch and can cause an obstruction. maybe just stopping the door a fraction? Weve been frustrated at times when an apparently successful repair wasn't doing what it should, only to find a minor secondary issue was the problem.

1. No. The plastic cup appears to be missing.

2, On my x244 the upper rear latch can be triggered by light outward finger pressure, and it moves to the latched position by spring action.
When the door handle is pulled outwards, the latch moves to the open position, and the spring is re-tensioned. I am wondering if the spring or your latch is broken. You may be interested in this recent similar thread.

1. Ahhh, great. I'll try and source some then!

2. Weirdly, the latch is fairly new. I replaced it a few months ago after the last one broke. Mine works much the same, but if the latch is in the open position and I let go of the handle, it doesn't move to the closed position. I have to open the handle to get it to close. Sadly they seem to be out of stock everywhere :\

I think the seals are fine. They look in good condition. I think it might be the rear upper latch stopping the door closing correctly :\

Found it! Looks like they are all the same (top/bottom/front/rear etc)

Hi,
Some progress then. Looking at the rear latch engagement on my x244, the pin oor bolt on the body seems to strike the latch almost at the top. The latch has slotted holes for lateral adjustment, so I am wondering whether or not the pin is mounted in a vertical slot for adjustment. Some judicious slackening of the pin may be on the cards, but only after marking current position.

Yeah I am hoping they'll arrive early next week. We're due to go away in it next weekend!

Meanwhile I've taken the rear upper catch out completely. It won't move from open to closed without using the handle so I am guessing the small rubber stop inside it has weakened to the point that it's not stopping the latch before it moved too far and locks open.
Seems they no longer make the part for the UK market. Coastal Motorhomes said it's no longer manufactured and all the European stock is for the left hand drive vehicle (thus right side sliding door and reversed latch!)
