It's a variable schedule. You can check how many miles until next service through the menu system on the dash.

Are you sure, I thought it was annually or 18,000 miles whichever is first.

The dash display just does a simple subtraction of miles covered from 18000, (don't know what happens when you pass 18K, probably goes to the next scheduled mileage and starts over again) not really of any use IMHO. As NP says 12 months or 18000 miles whichever comes first and if you don't do many miles there is an annual low mileage service available.

MY 1.3 multijet seems to have different views about this issue. At 12,700m the change oil light came on and when I contacted the supplying dealer they said it must have been set wrong at production and I should take it to them to reset it. This I did and duly at 18,000m it was serviced now at 25,500m the change oil light is now on and yet it should not be due until 36,000. They now say they will look at this next week when it is due in for some warranty work and I am fine to use the car until then even though this will mean 1000 mile with the red oil light flicking on.

As the dealer explained the light can come on due to oil degregation. As my car does 150 miles a day, 95% of which is on the motorway at 60 miles an hour, degregation would not be an issue as it is being used in the least degrading way possible.

Has anyone else had similar issues or have people not reached this sort of mileage yet.

There is a software fix for this. The diesel particulate filter software is triggering an oil change too early and Fiat have released a patch for the software. I think its incredible that people are having to pay to have thier oil changed when the software is at fault. Your dealer should know of this fix and update your cars software accordingly free of charge.

Dave, as Jake says, there is a software update which I have had done but I will not be able to tell if it has been effective until I exceed 7000 miles based on the mileage covered up to the first actuation. There is a note in the handbook that does say that the light and message will come on when the oil gets "tired". Possibly, this might be the case here, even though the miles you cover are nearly all done in the best possible conditions.

I remember you posting previously that you had no oil showing on your dipstick when you were at 8500mls, have you experienced this sort of oil consumption since the oil change at 18000. Obviously, if oil level is low it gets hotter and works harder to cool and lubricate the engine internals.
If you have a minute or so read this, it is the rundown on my original query regarding this issue.

The car has not used a drop of oil since that intial usage and in fact required very little to top it up.

I have read the link on your post and it brings up a some issues. I too wondered if it was about the degragation of the oil but since last time they merely reset the light without changing the oil and it did not come on again for the remaining 6K miles up to ist service it cannot be measuring the viscosity or condition of the oil or it would have come on again in very short time. it may however be assesing other datas to do with the DPF.

Also my wifes Suzuki GV posted its dpf light early this week as it has spent much of Xmas and New Year runing locally. I took it to work at steady 55 - 60, as I dowith the 500, and low and behold after 30 minutes it went out. The conditions obviously suitable for the GV and should also be for the 500 so why should the oil need changing ahead of schedule.

I've not yet done 3,000 miles and i've had the car 4 months! Nearly there though so anticipating I'll do about 9,000 miles before one year is up. Good news that I can have a smaller service then.

My hubbie has been checking the oil and it hasn't gone down in almost 3000 miles. Run out of washer liquid once though lol.

My dealer (Clemo Fiat in Cleckheaton), told to me today that the 1st service is due at 12000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. They quoted approx£198 for the service but also said they'd be introducing a 'low mileage' service for cars with under 10000 miles at approx £135.

I thought it was 18,000 miles?

But good of Clemo to take account of people doing less than half the mileage but paying full whack. I've done a little over 7,000 miles since taking delivery of Nero & Bianco on 23rd May with 12 miles on the odometer, so I hope my supplying dealer or local dealer will do a similar thing.

I think Nuova500 also mentioned 18000 miles. I or Clemo might have got it wrong. I think I'll check with them. I do no more than 10000 miles a year, so would be grateful for a discounted/cheaper low mileage service.

Mine has done around 3,400 miles and the oil has barely gone down at all!

I shall definitely be ringing round the local Fiat dealers to find out the cost of the first "low mileage" service as I can't see my dealer being that cheap when you consider I was charged £97.50 for just an oil and filter change at 3500 miles. I reckon by the time it is due I shall have covered about 7000 miles.

I will probably have it done a little earlier than scheduled, as I am driving down to Switzerland and Italy just before it's due date.
