The Oil thats recomended for a Fiat engine..what do you use..? how can you be sure to use Selenia Oil when you take the car in for a service, the garage will use what ever brand they have in stock...

iv never used selenia in any fiat i own.
and going by old service history on my cars, fiat dealers used castrol oil.

Its a marketing ploy, Selenia was once owned by Fiat so it would make sense for them to push your own product. They sold the company off several years ago but the association still remains. I think Selenia is now owned by Petronas, but whoever does actually own them probably give Fiat huge discounts on their products in exchange for plugging them...you scratch my back and I will scratch yours.
I have been running my GP around on Halfords homebrew for the last couple of years and guess what...nothing untoward whatsoever has happened. There are plenty of elderly Puntos still running around and I doubt they have all been topped up with the stuff given the price of it. It makes me wonder what all the die hard Selenia advocates would do if they stopped selling it in the UK

Would be Fiat's recommended brand I should imagine, half the fluids required to run your car need to be kept the same, i.e. not mixing brands.
I'm keeping up my end of the deal, so hope the dealer is!
Selenia also use fiat and other italian engines for their development and testing, so might be a bit of benefit there

i'm not saying using any other oil is going to instantly destroy your engine but that would be stupid
at the end of the day it's personal preference what you use in your car and i'm not going to step on anyones toes i can only recomend what i use as i know how good it is
althou on the destroying engines front just watch this space on modern diesels with dpf problems relating to oil times are changing we are starting to see problems
