Does anybody know the sealant that is used to join the panels together on vans? I have found a small leak on my roof of my Ducato and it has got into the ply lining! So now I want to get it sealed properly.

Camper vans are held together with sikaflex ,,it’s strong bond and mould resistant google it and have read

I'm afraid your going to have to get your Surgeons outfit out and open up the wound. As when the water gets in it saturates all the insulation travelling outwards until going downwards leaves stain on inner face of wall boarding. That's when you notice it. I'd repair exterior by not just filling the hole which will be dirty between the panels but open up panels a we bit more till sound sealant is found.
For a quick job I use a Multi-Tool as it slips in-between panels there nicely.
Sorry to say I'm using Everbuild Stixall at mo even though Sikaflex is the norm.

Well guys you’ve thrown so many sealants at him bet he’s more confused than when he ask the question that will teach him to ask on here lol

hi . for leaks on any joint with strips or around windows use this
Caravan & Motorhome Hodgson Seamseal Cv Non-Drying Bedding Sealant - White | eBay
for joints that are overlapped or fixing any to the roof like solar panels or sat dish
us this SIKAFLEX 221 WHITE Adhesive Sealant for Caravan Motorhome Boat Date 10/2018 | eBay
like most metal strips they come in 2 parts depending on age of course the top part comes off ( cover ) the second part has to be screw off & resealed as overtime the non setting seal drys up that's when they leak or like my roof it has a long metal strip running from side to side but stops short where it is overlapped to let rain water pass

It has gone off on a bit of a motorhome fixing tangent. From the OP he only refers to van but he does mention ply lining but I think this is just a van (??).
He can't used them all, but any apart from the ones suggested for bedding should be fine.

STOP!!!! [emoji23]
I’m going for the Sikaflex, going to clear out the joint...best as poss.
May even do some more on roof as look a bit cracked!

In your application its much of a muchness, if you were making a glass bottomed boat you might want to read the datasheet though :D

Sikaflex 221 is the one. Be wrned its a swine to get off once cured, it really is, so be careful, clean out the joint very well, mask areas not needing sealing, and once done and joint supported securely, remove masking and excess. It really is the best for roof seals- I did a major job on t'motorhome roof with it and you can submerge it now without leaks.
