I apologise for my earlier comment. I'm off work ill and very irratable but it was no excuse.
Dont worry it was never taken the wrong way. I am just hoping that my dealer will come back with good news, and that i can get my 500 on the scrappage scheme as it will be my first new car. :D

I would just ask him if the dealership is going to participate and if they are then place an order. Fiat are playing ball, they have to. I wouldn't have ordered this morning if I wasn't 110% sure it was happening :)

Hi guys, I am yet another potential 500 scrappage deal buyer.Just 2 points to make.

1. I read you should try and haggle for discounts on these new cars and only AFTER you have done this let them know you have an old banger you want give them on the scrappage scheme.

2. I want to buy a 500 when I hopefully have enough money in a few months time but I like my R reg Puma. It`s still fast as the day I got it.

1: That's generally a good tip even before the scrappage scheme began. Another is being prepared to deal that day. a salesman who thinks he will deal the same day will try much harder to get your business. (y)

2: I got a table that's just as fast as the day I got it. :p

Welcome to FIATForum.com :)

It's 100% confirmed :) My dealer has taken my order and taken the details of my 406 for scrappage

So what happened in your case? Did your dealer contact you and tell you that it's now in the scheme?

To those people now ordering 500's and getting 2k for their old banger...

Was there any restriction on the model and colours to choose from with the scrappage scheme? (for the new car)

Do you think it is possible to haggle a discount on a 500 because on What Car`s website their target price is the same as the retail price, suggesting it`s not possible.

My Puma is worth about £800 , is it worth spending all that money on a new car for basically a £1200 incentive?

I have a sneaky suspicion that the scrappage scheme will be a good excuse for dealers to argue they can't discount the car. especially since the discounts people have been getting have been pretty poor compared to some other cars. I think the best I heard so far has been £200.

Having had my share of old Fords I would argue no incentive is need to jump into a modern Fiat. I'll bet your Puma is already on the road to death by rust (I've had 3 all go the same way.) compared with a brand new galvanised 500. ;)

It is just the usual puma areas that are rusting, the rear wheel arches and the heater only works on max power or nothing!they`re the only probs.
Was looking on Autotrader website and you can get a 04 peugeot407 2.2 SE with 49k for £4195. That would have plenty of life in it and it`s a bigger car and surely more of a driving experience? What would be your opinion on that Venters? I appreciate your responses.

To be fair they are completely different cars and not really comparable. The pug will cruise in ways the 500 could never do but then it won't handle city life with the ease a 500 will. It really depends on the type of driving you do and the type of car you prefer.

Look at the advantages and disadvantages of cars you are considering. I'm afraid my view will be very biased. But one is cheaper one will be more reliable and also has 3 years of warranty on it. Also one is stunnig the other is a Pug. :D

My dealer said they couldn't do a discount at all with the scrappage scheme. I probably could have pushed him on it but I don't think i'd have got much of a discount anyway.

They're totally different cars. I've traded in a 406 for a 500 and aside from blowing its head gasket twice and some electric gremlins the car is actually really nice. But as Venters says they're totally different cars.

As I mentioned in my 'Oh so close' thread my dealer knew all about scrappage scheme, even had a form you need to fill in to confirm your trade in meets criteria (sadly mine did not as MOT has to be in place when you get new car, mine runs out in 3 weeks, dam these 12 week delivery times.) I did offer him the car now but no joy.
He did let slip that Fiat are not keen on scheme for 500 and will only do it if asked directly.

Mine didn't have a form but did ask me some questions about the car and MOT and so on

So, if I do opt for a 500 should I go for the 1.2 or the 1.4? The 1.2 looks a little slow to me.

Just a thought, but what spec you want for your 500? I thought if its nothing too wierd you could have maybe one from stock and manage to trade in your old car while you still have the MOT?

Depends on your definition of slow, and what you expect from the car.

For me, I couldnt justify spending over £1,000 extra for higher road tax, higher insurance, less mpg. I only really drive around the city, which the 1.2 does fantastically. Definitely better than my 1.6 Focus. The 1.4 also has a bigger turning circle, which (arguably) makes the 1.2 better for city-style driving. However, trying to overtake on the motorway in the 1.2 when you're doing 60-70+ needs careful consideration as unless you're going downhill, theres not much room for acceleration.

All things considered, I dont miss my Focus. Except the heated windscreen ;)

Seems fair to me. All the various engine owners will give positive points about their engine choice, and they all do different jobs. And if you do a search on the 500 forum, I think there have been a few threads discussing this very topic. Read as much as you can, have a decent test drive in the ones you are interested in, then make up your mind.
