Morning all, I've picked up an old rusty wheel spanner / wrench and I'm wondering what the best method is to restore?

Seen lots of advice on the web, some say use white vinegar, some say use coke a cola.

Anyone have experience of a method that works ?

regards
Rob

As it's only 1 spanner....
I use white vinegar, it's cheap and not as aggressive...

simply pour a bottle in a tray and dip the spanner, have a look after 30 mins or so...
Something I have noticed s that certain metal compositions can result in "pitted" effects if left too long", but Fiat tools are basic steel so no real problems...

The surface will become blackened with ferric acetate, so just clean under running water with a green scourer...

only problem will be flash rust as the surface will be clean and wet ....
2 solutions. 1 dry things and that means with heat to drive out the water or dip in a small container tank of sodium Bi carb which creates a temp rust proof coating...

Phosphoric acid is quicker and less trouble... but you can't just buy it at the supermarket...
