runaway diesel - but only briefly?

Hi guys,

not been on for a while but have had a couple of things with my car I thought I would ask about.

I have been in a runaway diesel before (escort diesel) and have seen what happens.
i.e.
Oil geting into the engine, the engine burns it and then the engine rev's full throttle until it blows up

my question is, can this happen briefly?

I ask as sometimes when I have been pushing her a bit, then put the clutch down, give it a little rev and bring the clutch up, she will suddenly pull at about double the normal power, dragging the car straight at the car infront at a rate of knots!!!
As soon as I depress the clutch the engine dies back to idling.

Now this is scary but not the 'full runaway diesel'

has anyone experiencced this and am I wrong saying this is a brief runaway diesel or is it something else?
