500L Resetting the oil degradation counter

I’m looking to do the servicing myself on my fiat 500l. Is it easy enough reset the oil degradation counter with multiecuscan? First I need to buy all the stuff, a laptop, software and cables. Will any laptop running windows work or does it need to be a certain spec?

Hi

You don't say what engine your 500L has. If it is a diesel with DPF filter then yes the oil change/degradation reset has to be done. If you have a petrol engined 500L then you may be in a better place.

I've not kept up to date with other non MES options but you may wish to call/consult Gendan ( https://www.gendan.co.uk/) as they have other well priced EOBD kit that covers Fiat cars and compared to purchasing MES, cables and Laptop computer there may be a better solution for you.

They have the Foxwell NT530 which will do Oil change resets plus a loads of other stuff but this will not have the full coverage that MES provides.

As for MES and PC requirements then I run/ran MES on a modest 2015 tablet PC. (• Intel® Celeron™ N2806 processor (22nm, 1.60GHz, DDR3L-1066, 1MB L2 cache, TDP: 4.3W)

If you choose MES the I would suggest you AVOID Blue Tooth interfaces and stick with directly connected USB interfaces. Personally I would go for OBDLINK SX. However all the Gendan packages/interfaces for MES WILL WORK and if the don't or you have issues then will help.

Gendan are MES recommended suppliers and yes a little more expensive that other "unknown" ebay/other supplied devices which often have issues with MES etc.

I had a 2013 Bravo 1.6D and the resetting was a simple menu item in MES for that car / engine.
