After only a couple of months I have managed to badly scratch the top of the gear knob. I never liked the feel of the cheap plastic but I wasnt planning on ever changing it. For most people it wouldnt bother them but I cant leave it alone I need to change it asap. So to fix this disaster I thought I would fit a better momo gear knob. Has anybody replaced the gear knob on a 100HP before and if so how do you do it and whats the best technique? If it means I might end up damaging the car further I wont bother though. On a side note can you get a quick shifter for the 100HP? I know its a pretty short and slick shift anyway but I can see room for improvement.

I should have used the search engine before because I have found the answer. The damn thing is impossible to change so thats it im stuck with it looking crap. All I can do is to try and replace the top cap somehow. I am well miffed at myself for scratching it now. :bang:

Hi,

I too need to take the gear knob off my 100HP, the gear lever gaiter on my car has split.
I've got a replacement gaiter, how do you remove the Knob?
Is it really impossible to remove???

This is my bad as I shouldnt have started this post and just searched this site instead. Apoligies to all for that. Anyway apparently you have to pull off the top cap and then using a hacksaw cut down to the metal post underneath. You then prise apart the gear knob with a large screwdriver and it will finally come off. I dont like to think about doing it to such a new car but it must be done. The OE item just scratched so easily it must be a realy cheap piece of tat.

Get one of these:

Have you not thought about rubbing down your knob, and then respraying? :)

I hope you are saying what I think you are saying.

Its certainly an idea although you have to remember that the paint finish will have to be very very good. I mean I will have to handle it afterwards and so I dont want a rough finish. At the end of the day though the Fiat item is very cheap and nasty and it could easily get scratched again. I think its actually much simpler to not mess around with paint and just get rid of the OE item and replace it with a quailty item.
