Technical Replacing Speedo Cable

Hi all,

Recently picked up my 1970 500L. One of the first jobs I need to is replace the Speedo cable. It’s disconnected both ends and passes through into the footwell at the front. But for the life of me I can’t work out how to pass it through the tunnel. The ends are far to big to fit, and I’m reluctant to remove the interior carpet unless I really have to! Any tips?

Update: Gave in and removed the carpet and the seats. That part turned out to be a much easier job than I realised! Still not sorted the cable, but that’s tomorrows job now!
