Hi,

Just wondered if anyone has found a way of removing the sticky pads left behind when the wheel balancers are removed and replaced when tyres are changed?

They seem to be incredibly sticky and impossible to remove!

Thanks

Tyre fitters have to remove them & I remember seing a guy grip them with what looked like a standard nail puller (like pliers but with C shaped jaws.)

I'm surprised the autoglym stuff didn't work. I've had to remove that stuff before but I don't use Autoglym T&G remover but all the other ones I have or do use all work identically and I'd be surprised if Autoglyms stuff wasn't as good as the stuff I normally use, although I suppose if it's general public stuff it might be weaker as trade stuff can be dangerous if not used carefully.

Most T&G removers are solvent based so that solvent stuff will probably do the job. Check it's safe for use on painted surfaces first though.

But at £21 for 2 500ml tins It's dear.

£21.30 for 5 litres.

Well I got some of the CT1 MultiSolve from a supplier at work this afternoon for £7. It has worked amazingly well and is recommended for alloy cleaning on their website...

Would recommend giving it ago. The wheels were quite badly covered in tar spots on the inside but now there are next to none left.

See photo below of the first wheel I did. This was up until 2 weeks ago a front wheel as well so it took the brunt of brake dust and other dirt on the road.

Thanks for all the advice.

Use a length of fine fishing nylon line to cut through sticky pad as a knife may damage alloy & us WD40 to remove sticky remaining.

Any true solvent will do. I use Tardis, but even then, the glue took some shifting.

What he said... but use a heat gun first to make the glue pliable. Not a hair dryer, a heat gun.

Works well for debadging a car of it's emblem's too.

Just curious, why do you want to remove those pads and weights? They were put there for a reason by the tire balancer, I'd think.

Hi, as Venters said I am only removing the left behind adhesive and black sponge material left behind when the balancers are replaced at tyre changes. I think they look a nice set of alloys look bad.
