Technical Reliability wise - 1.2 or 1.4?

From a reliability perspective, which engine is more reliable - the 1.2 or the 1.4?
are these the same engine, by the way?
or totally different?

tempted by the 1.4 because of the 100hp, but honestly, reliability is more important to me (as well as fuel economy).

advice appreciated!

If you are prioritizing reliabilty, and then fuel economy, then the 1.2 is the logical choice.

The 1.4 isn't either bad or unreliable, but they're getting old now and it's more likely they'll have been driven hard in the past. And a 1.4 will definitely use more fuel.

Some 1.2 service items (like brake parts) are significantly cheaper than their 1.4 equivalents, too.

Either is a much less risky proposition than an older TA.

Had the 1.4 in my Panda 100HP. In my opinion it's bullitproof. And depending on how you use your rightfoot it can still be very economical in it's fuelconsumption.

Bosch engine management on the 1.4 which has far less niggles than the Marelli system on the 1.2.

Both engines are the well-proven "Fire" units but the 1.4 has a twin-cam 16v head, as well as the bigger displacement.
