Hi folks, another query. Hope you can help.

My Abarth had an engine replacement November 2010 having done over 100000 in only 4 years of her life. The new engine is fantastic and I've no problems since the replacement engine was fitted.

I have two queries though, I've not updated the log book yet with the new engine number. Do I simply have to get the engine number and fill in the details and send the log book to DVLA

Secondly, my mileage on the dash is still showing the old mileage from my old engine. Can and how do I change this figure so it matches the correct figure of the replacement engine?

Many thanks

Paul

Fill in section 7 of the V5C (log book) with the new engine number and send it to the DVLA.

The mileage is for the car, not just the engine so you can't change it.

Thanks for that mate.

I've just been doing a little bit of research and it seems the DVLA have some new rules in place when changing certain things on a car.

It seems now, DVLA want a receipt for the engine, headed letter from the garage that fitted the new engine, written evidence from the manufacturer or an inspection report for insurance purposes.

Oh my Goodness, my head is hurting already. It's going to be a bit of a nightmare trying to get this kind of proof.

I bought a Stilo that had been written off, and used the engine out of that, no receipt there. My mate fitted the engine, he does it on the side from his normal job. I don't thing he can even spell, let alone write a letter on headed paper:D

Maybe, I won't register the new engine after all!
