Technical Rear end electrical issues

I have just bought a 1.2 grande punto. The rear tailgate doesn't open, rear wiper doesn't work and rear demister doesn't work. Any chance these are related? A relay etc? Seems a bit too close to all be separate issues

Most likely a common ground somewhere in the boot. You may need to crawl in the boot, take off some trims and get the boot open manually to be able to take a good look.

There is also the possibility the wiring from the body of the car to the tailgate has broken so you need to get the boot open to inspect this as well

This is a relatively common error...the looms breaks where it exits the body work and goes into the hatch/boot lid.
I spliced new wires into my daughters car to fix it.

+1 for the wiring as above. Pull back the rubber boot between the tailgate and body and check each of the wires for breaks. Also while you're in there check the rear wash pipe, that often breaks too causing water to run into the book rather than onto the screen

Just in case you haven't already discovered this, the boot lock can be opened manually from inside -

Put the rear seats down then reach/crawl into the boot space and press the small lever on the side of the lock (marked "B" in the diagram below).



Obviously you don't want to have to do this everytime you go to the shops but useful when the electrics fail.

Will have to check out this too... Rear washer is not working

Does anyone know how the hose to the rear washer is routed between engine and boot?
I can't seem to find these kind of details in the Haynes manual. Hoping it's not via the roof but it probably is...

I had this issue along with the frayed/broken loom..The passenger side rear side panel has to be removed to access the washer pipe.. I use an airline connector and air line from a pet shop to fix mine.
