For some reason (best known to the small gremlin like monster living in the boot), the rear o/s brake light has blown about 3 times since May - I have tried to track down the short etc but have had no success. Rather than roll with the problem and keep replacing the stock 380 type bulbs I decided to get a set of LED replacements from eBay (not something I would usually do).......
Guess what, they turned up in the post today and actually work!!!! They are a direct replacement for the stock side/brake light, and although they are not significantly brighter, each bulb has 24 LED's that act as both side and brake lights. The performance of the brake 'on' is quite significant - compared with a stock 380 bulb I would say they are half a second faster to come on! (does not sounds much but could be the difference between someone hitting the back of you and someone seeing you stop!!)..........
I am off the Brighton tomorrow to see Billy Connolly 'live' - if they last the whole way there and back without blowing or someone hitting the back of me for less than £10 I am sold!!!!
