I own a '96 Panda. When I pass the 40km/hr mark there is a rattling noise inside the cockpit of the car. I tried removing the transmission cover but the sound seems to be eminating from underneat the dashboard.

Any clues how I can fix this one?

Your panda has a dash, wow:D. seriously now, does it rattle at iddle when revved, which side does it come from?
My guesses would be:

-exhaust
-clutch bearing
-something loose:p

without more info i can´t be more specific

If you have any questions don´t be afraid, ask away. I´ll be glad to help.

No I put a custom exhaust recently but the rattle was present before that. It can only be heard when the car is moving.

It is more of a buzzing sound rather than a rattle. It's not present on idle.

I'm fitting Bilstein shocks on the rear next week. And I've ordered a K&N replacement element.

Check driveshafts ,transmission:D. THe best way to solve this would be to place the car securily on jackstands(not a jack) and have someone place it in gear and give it a bit of accelaration while you carefully look underneath for the source. Make sure you do not come in contact with the spinning wheels as it will hurt.:p

Electrical type buzzing? Could be the ignition coil.

Fix It Again Tony!
Would swap for X19, Montecarlo Spider or GT.i.e in average/poor condition! Scottish based would be nice.

My 93 CLX Panda 999 fire rattles. The clutch release bearing is clattering but only noisy when depressed. The latest rattle is the cat coming loose inside the housing. This rattles when accelerating/decelerating.Oh joy....

Hello...forgive me if this sounds stupid, but:----
I was plagued by just such a noise in my last standard Panda. After checking everything it turned out to be a very dead, dry leaf lodged in the LHS air intake at the end of the 'dash':I

HHmmmmmmm

Thanks for all your help guys. Pandafan I have checked out the LHS air intake as well. It's clear. Maybe there's some plastic cover un der the dashboard to insulate engine noise? I haven't got a diagram how the panda isa laid out

I took the carpets up and put down some foum stuff down the type you use behind wall papper to insulate the room. I have used it in my studio to sound proof the walls etc. anyway after all that was put down and extra mats in the boot the car is a lot less noisey! I am working on putting some of that sound profing stuff under the hood like on modern cars

Hi Kevin Ross100,
When insulating under your bonnet PLEASE don't use the polystyrene sheeting that you put under wallpaper. It is flammable and will invalidate your insurance. A bitumen-type covered felt is much safer and a lot more effective.

HHmmmmmmm

i was going to go the the scrap yard and get the stuff off an old car and use that some how. I think that the idea of putting a flamable sheet ontop of a hot engine would be studid even for me!

Think of all the extra weight, omg the fuel consumption increase:plol. Actually done it myself using carpenters glue(the one that looks like silicone) because i couldn´t hear the stereo and igf i could so could everyone else:D.

BTW do not place any where the spare goes because you´ll have trouble popping the hood again, at least i did.;)

I have just asked my mechanic and he says that it's a speedo problem. I hope it will be fixed when i'll take the car back to him again.

Btw i just had those bilstein shocks fitted and the car's ride feels more firm. I have to replace a worn ball joint next time....
