You can get genuine Fiat locking caps with 2 keys

They aint expensive, due to panda's not coming with them... Stupid i know

Eitherway - Get one - you get 2 keys - keep the key in the car so you never forget it in the floors Vin cover (easy and hidden)

Regarding a random cut out
Loose battery terminals?
Starting signs of a failing crank sensor?
Wasnt riding clutch by accident?

Ziggy

Where do you recommend getting a genuine one from , Fiat ?

Also forgot to mention in original post -car is a dualogic (y)

For the cutting out, possibly TDC sensor. If it cuts out for any length of time, check for spark at plug, wet plugs (when cranked).

Code read may reveal something, but TDC seldom results in a code.

cheers , will connect it to the laptop tomorrow .

What is the TDC sensor? My Punto seems to cut out randomly every now and then, but it usually just starts straight back up again after a minute. No indication on the diagnostic as to why though?

TDC sensor = crank sensor (sometimes called "rev sensor"). On the FIRE engines it sits at about 3 o clock to the alternator pulley on the crankshaft.

It's the sensor which tells the ECU that the engine is running and how fast it is running. Without a signal from the TDC sensor the ECU thinks that the engine isn't running, so it cuts spark, cuts the injectors. The ECU won't generally record anything as it believes the engine isn't running, and, if the engine isn't running, it believes that there can't be a fault. Sure fire test, if it conks out for any period of time is check for spark, check for wet petrol smelly plugs. If no spark and no smelly of petrol, TDC sensor is the likely culprit.

A trick which sometimes works is to get someone to waggle the TDC sensor wire while you crank the engine. If it suddenly bursts into life, well...........

thanks man, thats very encouraging :/ lol. have you had this problem im having before?
