General Punto subwoofer help

Does anyone know if I can simply plug my new subwoofer into my Punto??? Its an 03 plate 5000000 ltd edition. Just need to know if the correct wires are already in the loom somewhere???

do you mean the factory fitted sub?

if yes, then if the plug is in the boot then it will work

Is the wire already there for it? If not its still pretty simple to install.

Did the metal bracket come with the sub?

Yes.... I got a short length of wire ( about a foot) with the white multiplug attatched to the sub. Also got the bracket and nuts/bolts too so mounting it should be easy. Just not sure of the wiring!!!??

as far as im aware if the plug isnt already wired in for the sub then its difficult to wire it in better of just getting an aftermarket

Right, on PC now...

You need a 6 lenghts of heavyish guage wire, I had some speaker cable that came with surround sound system so I used that.

Colour code the ends of each wire to make it easier to identify them, then run them under the rear door cards, underneath the base of the seat, around the base's hinge, then along the lower part of the rear trim, underneath the door sill trim, then up around the weather seal, behind the glovebox and in through the small gap to the back of Headunit.

orange & green - splice into rear speaker
orange & black - splice into rear speaker
blue & red - pin 2 in audio iso harness
Blue & yellow - pin 1 in audio iso harness
Black - earth - locate nearest earth, probably rear light cluster
Grey - auto antenna, pin 5 in power iso harness
Red & white - Power - splice into igintion switched wire in power iso, or into main power cable,

Here is the wiring diagram that I used to figure out the wires,

all that for a rubbish sub? i would just get a cheap small active sub and wire that in

Right, I've tried to do this this morning. And I've got stuck! (Sorry to hijack the thread, but OP might have the same problem). I've got a Mia, which has nothing out than the headunit and two front speakers. I bought a set on ebay which included the sub, some pins for the ISO connectors and the rear speakers.

So far, I've put the pins into the audio ISO plug. Blue&Yellow into Pin 1, Blue&Red into pin2, Orange and black into Pin7 and Orange and Green into pin 8.

I've attached two lengths of dual car speaker cable, noting which cable connects to which pin in the headunit. So now, I have 2 lengths of 2 core cable running out of the glovebox (will route later once sub is working).

Then, onto the power and remote on/auto antena yes? This is the bit I think i'm stuck at. I've got an aftermarket head unit, Kenwood KDC-W3044G, which the two ISO plugs (power and audio) plug into. Which then goes into the back of the headunit. I've spliced into pin 7 on the power plug for power. And then the grey cable (iirc pin 5) on the power ISO for remote / auto antena.

Then I wired up the plug that goes into the sub itself, red/white getting the power lead from the front. Grey getting the remote in/antena. Black being ground. And each of the Blue&Red / Blue&Yellow / Orange&Black / Orange&Green cables to the corresponding colour on the plug.

But whenever I try anything with the headunit, the headunit and front speakers work, but the sub is dead. Not a peep.

I've been trying to work it out, and basically spliced into every combination of wires there is behind the headunit. But the sub won't live! Any ideas, I've been at it for a good 5 hours and nothing!

is the fuse in the sub ok?

erm, I think I put the grey wire into the ignition switched pin, ill have 2 pull out headunit to see...I remember I had an issue getting it to switch on too..


the standard sub isnt that bad...theres good enough bass out of it, dont like those big thumping bass subs at all...

The Factory Sub is one of those items that you could possibly get away with - if you cant afford the Insurance to declare a Aftermarket Sub

As it came with the car - its a Factory option

It'd sit to the side of the boot - and NOT be a problem at all

I'd be drilling a Slot in it tho to make a extra Big Boot light
Wiring seems easy - 6 wires cant be that hard - it'll be routing them all around the car

Right just checked mine,

SUB -> POWER ISO
Red&White -> Red
Black -> Black
Grey -> Blue

With the remain wires, you dont need to run them to headunit, you can splice into each rear speaker
Orange & Green - Right
Orange & Black - Left

No, because mine didn't. So I had to put the pins into my ISO plug as well.

Major problem though for me!

I give up on trying to wire the sub, so i decided to wire the rear speakers in and call it a day at that, but now, with them in place, and wired. Neither headunit nor the interior light has power and won't turn on

I've ran back along everything and nothing seems to be broken, no wires pinched and all of the connections i've made or solid. Everything else in the car seems to have power (lights, speedo display) everything but the headunit and interior light.

Anyone got any ideas what this could be before i top myself?

Now that I think about it, when I was wiring in the rear speakers, everything was plugged in. Could I have blown a fuse somewhere? But the thing is, where? There's one in the back of the head unit, and obviously all the ones in the fusebox. I haven't got any spares to test with, but I plugged in my old, fiat head unit and with that in, both it and the interior light are still dead.

If theres no wiring there for a factory sub..

seriously just buy a small 8" or even smaller aftermarket sub with amp built in!

Then follow my guide on how to install a subwoofer in the ice guides section.

Far less work and the 100W Fiat Sub if quite poo tbf.. i put my old one back in with my upgraded speakers and the sub didnt even make a sound.

Could possibly go for a 4"?

it does sound like a lot oh hassle, you dont have to really turn it up and it will still sound a billion times better,

if you go small enough you could probably mount it some how where the original sits

Yeah you have def blown a fuse, i managed to do it somehow when i was tidying some wires behind my HU but it was 2 days before it went in for a service so i let them change it. It will probably be in the inside fuse box so just have a check of them
