hey

i had a new rocker cover gasket fitted on my punto 2004 1.2, problem is a few days after it started leaking again, could it have been the cheap sealant used? its leaking from the right side of the engine, getting messy, any suggestions?

cheers

loctite 5900 or 5910. 5910 is best stuff, done 3 rocker covers with it and none of them have leaked since.Clean up your normal gasket and put a bit of loctite on.torque it lightly, lots of people tighten it too tight. i think its about 10nm
You can get loctite 5910 or 5900 in halfords

Problem sorted!(y)

by how much you tighten a bolt or nut. do the bolts hand tight and tighten about 1/8 of a turn with rachet should be good

Did you buy the correct sealant. There is a specific grtade sealant that you should use. I did mine about 2 months ago. I put the sealant on the arches (semi-circles on 8V engine) only , and I put plenty in the corners. Then put the cover on. Hand tighten the nuts evenly as you go.

You should do this in an opposite pattern. (i.e. tighen bolts opposite each other as you go)

Leave for half and hour, then give them a 1/8 of a turn. Spot on.

Heres mine, before i cleaned the lower half.

cheers mate, i think my problem was i sued a ****e sealant, ima have to get one of the ones listed above and re seal it...

Over tightening the cover can bend it and then it will never seal properly.

Never? Even if you get it skimmed?
I'm not going to do it again on that car but my new one has same leaks from the same corners, like every other punto I've ever seen so I'm going to re-seal the new one! (with locktite) also the bolts should i just hand tighten them and then one quarter turn more then? Don't have a torque wrench.

I also noticed when changing the spark plugs over that oil had leaked into the far left spark plug, so i cleaned it up and put new spark plug in. Going to maybe try and do it tomorrow weather permitting, wanted to check the clearance on the cams anyway so can do that at the same time.
