Punto mk1 2.0 20v turbo coupe conversion

Hi People it has been years since i was in the fiat scene, but am back and proud! I have always wanted to do the fiat coupe conversion on the mk1 punto but was unsure on a few things??

1. Is there a lot of work, or is it not that bad?
2. If i buy just a normal punto mk1 sporting, is it exactly the same chasis as the 1.4 gt? For example i do not wana pay £1000+ for a mk1 gt when I am just goin to rip the engine out and put the 2.0 20v turbo coupe engine in.

Any help on this would be great as I am ready to buy the car and engine, thanks

I think you may find that the front chassis rails on the Punto are not wide enough to take a 20V 5 cylinder Coupe engine.

You might be able to squeeze a 16V unit in there.

It has been done but you have to cut the front away and space frame it.

Really not worth the effort. As said the 16v Turbo is a much better fit although still tight!

My next question is simply why? It will handle like an oil tanker!

People have swapped these 5cyl into some Palios here in brazil. they're even smaller than punto's but i've just seen it on drag racing cars with more than 600hp, so probably they cutted the front end / monoblock side members to fit it in. My pfp is an example of a drag fiat uno with a 2.4l 24v turbo
