Hi All,

My gf just bought an 02 Punto, however radio did not come installed. "No problem," I said to myself. I've put in a few radios, nothing I can't handle.

Yet upon actually doing out and doing the task, I was a little stumped. There are no ISO connectors on either the vehicle end or radio end. I have the speaker wires and the wires for the power out of the radio sorted, yet there are a few wires I'm not too sure about...

Out of one 'loom' are the following wires:

What does each connect to? I know black is earth. Red is battery, yellow is Ignition? The blue I have no idea about!

And out of the 'speaker loom' there are the following mystery wires:

What do the Grean & Yellow, Grey and Green & Blue wires connect to? Is the thick black wire another earth?

These are the only wire stopping from letting me install this radio, and I can't seem to decipher the Haynes Manual since I'm not wizz-bang on wiring diagrams...

Thanks for all your help!

But surely someone knows what the wires do/where they go!

Am I right about the Red, Yellow, and Black wires?

All I need is simple 'Red=Battery' type explanation :)

With the blue wire, do I need to connect it to anything for the radio to work, or should I just leave it? Do I need to connect every wire to something for the HU to work..?

i think this is right:
Red - permanent live wire
Yellow - ignition live
black - ground ?
blue - remote

With the blue remote, you dont need to connect it to anything unless you want to run an amp

Thanks for that.

I've found out that the Green & Yellow and Green and blue wires are from the fuse box, and the Grey wire is connected to the electric aerial and subwoofer (that doesn't exist). Where on the HU should I connect them?

I'm pretty certain Yellow is permanent 12V and Red is ignition? i just installed my headunit yesterday and this is what i got

just go to the car scrap and cut the cables from another fiat punto and from the iso take the cables out and put urs back in, put you need it to do it 1 by 1 cable or if u get all out you dont know how to put them back >(

Could someone possibly look at the back of their radio and see where these 3 wires go...? It would save so much hassle...

If I were to get a replacement wiring harness, would it be as simple as just connecting the car and HU's ISO's..?

 Hang on... "It would save so much hassle..."

For you yes... but it would be hassle for someone else...

Its your problem, just go a scrappy as advised more than once and help yourself get around this fella (y)

Ok, so when I get this new ISO from the scrap car, is it as easy as hardwiring it to the existing wires in my car and connecting the two ISO's?

Yes if you pick the ISO from a similar car from similar year, mentally note the wiring colours to be sure. Its the best option for when you want to change the radio again or take a good one out for a basic one when it gets sold on.

Hi, I'm new here, bought me punto yesterday!!!, downsizing to something small. Its a 00 1.2 8V ELX model.

The radio was not working corrrectly, so I looked at it today.

The red and yellow wires a continuous 12V leads. Thus your radio will not shut off with ignition, which is a pain in the neck.

The only ACC (or ignition wire) that I could find was a skinnier light blue wire. I knew I could use it because it carried the correct voltage and met no other wire when connecting to the ISO connector.

Hope this helps a little.

Hi there! Have you solved your problem?

I wrote a while ago short guide on how to install a player into a car with no ISO connectors. You just need to buy male and female ISO connectors in a local store.

If you take the ISO and look at it, you can see it's divided into 2 parts. The left part on the ISO at the pic above is for speakers. Each color has 2 wires, where one of them is usually with a black stripe. If you look at the wires, it should be wrote what goes where. Something like "front left negative", "front left positive"....and so on.
Wires from one channel are the same color, for example let's take the purple one. The main difference is like I said, one of them is with a black stripe. So, the one without a stripe is +, so you connect it to the + on the speaker, and the one with a black stripe on it is -, so you connect it to the - of the speaker. Simple as that.

You're probably more worried with other side of the ISO connector, the one with command wires.

- The black one is GROUND
- The yellow one is 12V
Permanent 12V, so it should be connected directly to your car battery
- Red wire is ACC
Goes to ignition. If you don't have that option on your car, you can connect it with a yellow wire, but then the player will not shut off with ignition.

Next few wires are optional, and you may not find them on all players:

- Blue and Blue-White are ANT and REMOTE
Remote controls the amp if you have it. It turns the amp on when you turn the player on. The same with Ant which controls the antenna, if you have a motorized one. Leave them if you don't need them.
- Orange is for ILLUMINATION
Connect it to the dimmer in your car if you have that option. It's used to dime the player background lights.
- Yellow-Black one is for MUTE
It's used to mute the sound when you phone rings, if you have that option in your car. If not, you can connect it to a switch and connect the other side of that switch to the ground, so you can mute the sound manually if you need to.

Hope this will help to someone ;)

Wow, thanks for that guide. It does help somewhat.

The real problem I have is knowing where to connect the so called 'mystery wires'... As explained above, they go to the fusebox, electric aerial and sub... I need a place to connect these wires on the HU... The electric aerial and sub don't actually exist! Once I find this out, I will finally be able to put it in!!!

Ok, I got what your problem is.
You solved already what are those wires for from your first pic.

You don't know the purpose of those from another pic.
Maybe those wires are from another pair of speakers?
Or maybe they're what's left from another 2 speakers that were removed by an previous owner before sell.

Why don't you just try and connect the player with the wires you have, and see if it works. That's what I would do. :D

I'll try it out today and see what happens...

I know for a fact that the 3 mystery wires are from the fusebox, sub and electric aerial because I have a circuit diagram... So they can't be a spare set of speakers or anything.
