I guess this has been asked before, but is there anyone in the UK who can map the engine management of the Punto 1.8 HGT? I appreciate it's possible to shove a Unichip on, but I am asking if anyone can do it via OBDII (ie. alter the base map), and if not why not?

Thanks
John

Apparently GSR re-map the HGT (not sure if its a live map though)

Ive heard lots of differing views on GSR mind, some good, some not-so-good.

best to pay a visit to www.angeltuning.co.uk , have a look at the FAQ, drop them an e-mail or pm alfanige on this forum

his sig mentions a Fiat Barchetta (power project underway!) , which i believe uses the same engine, whether this power is through a remap we can only wait and see :)

James, you have had that sig for 3 months now, havent you had it done yet?

It is my fault that the figures are not revised, because I want to get the car on the reference rolling road to have a proper comparison between before and after as I do not want anyone to come back and tell me otherwise. But we know for sure that it is in excess of 100lb ft.

Not sure about tuning a 1.8 HGT

Get a Honda Integra Type R 1.8 and 180bhp standard..... More reliable. Simple !

Just done an HGT with head work, cams, exhaust, induction and map. Works fine. The HGT engine when done properly is very good and will last.

What power does that take it to though ?

Integra can be tuned to 250bhp.....

Maybe getting old!! Rather spend the money buying an already quick car. hmmm.....

lol, must be getting old.... looked at c70 t5 volvo earlier and thought, hmmm nice!!!

Depneds what you want to do. But power isn't everything. Driveability is more torque related. I personally have rather torque than power out of a screaming engine.

And the other side is that Japanese cars never ever had what Italian cars had: Lots of character.

Got to agree with you on that one.... More style in the italian cars !! always fancied an Alfa 156 v6 but problems with my punto have put me off..... and mates GTV is unreliable as well..... always electrics.

'always electrics'

well rip them all out, and replace with mechanical stuff from your punto then there is nearly nothing left to go wrong.

Its the same prob with german cars, the engine and body will last longer than you will but electrics don't break, they just do annoying things, that the dealer can't fix either.

How many people do you hear about Mercedes complaining? If any not a lot.

But is it common knowledge that they are in big trouble, making vast losses and loosing first of all on the home market?

The reason is not different to Alfa or Fiat. Mercedes has got big quality issues. They are so big that Mercedes is a regular guest on the German news at the moment and that Schrempp (the Daimler-Chrysler boss) had to fire himself.

Mercedes had a year ago the largest ever recall of any manufacturer with nearly 660,000 cars to be called back. If you read specialist magazine's you will see that the recalls are part of the daily life of every manufacturer.

I agree with the quality on modern day merc's... There absolute crap. My boss's E55 AMG has been to the Dealer and back 12 times and there is still electrical problems. His sat nav randomly turns it self on and tell's him to turn right when he's doing "70" cough* down the motorway.

As far as HGT tuning. Go for it mate depends on how much cash you got to burn as to how much power you will get. But I know of one that's got 390bhp and 456ft pounds of torque @ 4900rpm with a Supercharger. Im very tempted to pass my car on to my Dad as he said he would have it and get a Mk2 HGT and lower my payment from £225 to about £100 :) and have a faster car.
