I have just heard that my car is here (1.2 Lounge, BNW, Interscope, dualogic, vintage leather, cream ambiance, side strip, mirror thingy, 16" spoke wheels) I can't wait to see it having had lots of great advice on here about what extras to have (and not have!). It wasn't due till Sept but the sales guy said that would be better because it would be a 61 reg. I now have the choice....11 reg now or 61 reg later?? My preference is to get it now - and I prefer the number 11 to 61 (lame I know) and I'm not bothered about the snob value of having the most recent number. What is the FF view - does the later plate make any significant difference when it's part ex time?

I'm really interested in what people have to say about this, if my car turns up before the end of the month I was thinking about just going for the 11 plate as well!
I think the main question to ask will be how long do you plan to keep the car?

When its part ex time then yes it would as its classed as an older car, but you say you prefer 11 to 61 and your preference is to get it now so i think you've already answered your own question, Go get your new car (y) and enjoy it.

Flojo - I plan to keep it three years....what about you?

Blitz you are very perceptive, as I pressed send I realised I had answered my own question!! Franda you are right - how can I possibly wait....I am SO excited. I've asked them to put Italian flags on the wings and then I'm ready to go...

I placed my order about two months ago and specified that I didn't want the car until September. Mostly because this is my first proper car after passing my test in February and want it to appear newer for longer.
It's all down to personal preference. Given that it's only a month until the new plates come in I would wait.

Definately 3 years - potentially for as long as the car is reliable (y)
Last week I parted with my lupo of just under 10 years that I had owned from 1 year. I'm spending a fortune buying a car that I hope I'll love with the expectation that it will last as long as possible :D

Good choice with the italian flags as well, i was thinking of getting the flags but got the italian stripes for mine as i ended up getting them cheap.

I'd get it now and enjoy the car in the good weather.

If you trade it in in exactly 3 years it will be the same as waiting for the 61 reg and part exing exactly 3 years from then.

I would also get your car now if it was me.

We ordered a new 500 1.2 Lounge about 5 weeks ago. It was due to arrive late September but looks like it will now be arriving at the dealers in the next week or so. Unfortunately due to moving house we won't be able to have it until September. However as we prefer the 11 plate for looks as well as not to be too flash with the new neighbours, the dealer has agreed to register it on a 11 plate. Last week we had some fun selecting the car's registration plate. We had a choice of about 20 different plates. The dealer did say that there weren't that many 11 plates left and they didn't expect to get any more as they don't register many cars in August.

I did raise the subject of 11 vs 61 plate a while ago on here - see https://www.fiatforum.com/500/276328-new-61-plate.html

I have my own Private Plate, but i still waited for my car to be registered in Sept.(2009) even though it arrived in August. You will get something like an extra £300 when you come to sell.
My car is not a Fiat but the dealer stored my new car round the back and gave me a loan car for free till i was ready for my new car.
The only time i took a car in August was because it was part of the deal, £2500 discount off my Panda 100 HP in 2007.

I'm getting this too! I hate getting dazzled by the car behind when it gets dark, I'm hoping it is a good choice :)

My A3 that i had before the had one of those dipping rear view mirror it also had dipping wing mirrors such a good feature on cars. Shame my 500 doesn't have them.

I had same situation exactly three years ago and I waited til 1st sept and due to work commitments didn't actually pick up til 13th sept and the car log book reflects the 13th pick up date

So I'd wait.....but perhaps you can't lol. It does take a degree of patience. I'm not usually patient but I figured if I'd waited since mid-June I could wait a few weeks more!

Electric thingy is Mancunian speak for the 'Electrochomatic dipping rearview mirror' - apparently it dips automatically when someone blinds you with their lights. Not sure how it works but it sounds useful!

I have this on my car and although some people (no names no pack drill, lol) will say it is easy just to move the lever on the standard mirror I have found it very worthwhile. :p

My twin air plus is due in this week.....Met Black with Black alloys, glass roof, climate control, black leather, brushed chrome mirrors, side rubbing strips, xenons and tinted windows........... but I'm on holiday for two weeks starting the 24th so I'm picking it up in september it's torture !!! Reason being I don't want it parked in the street for two weeks while I'm away.

Not remotely bothered about reg but I'll defo Lord it up in my 61 :nerner: :D

Had this on my vw passat, it basically tints dark so all you can see behind are lots of headlights but no car outlines. hard to decifer between cars and a motorbike gaining from behind. maybe just me but I didn't like it much
