Yeah I think I dodged a bullet with this one...had I removed it I think we'd have been gluing the casting back together with gungum! Might have even held and not blown as much but more likely would have left larger gaps in the manifold and even more noise! I enjoyed popping the exhaust in the tunnels though...
A stronger mount to the gearbox would probably do the trick but unfortunately the one on the car was fairly rotten and gave no additional strength...possibly a reinforcement bar across the rear sump guard mounts...
Anyway, could have been much worse....will be a lot more cautious in future for sure!! But I guess you can't know where the weakness' are until you try!
