guys i know theres threads on head gaskets . i took the oil filler cap off my panda today . first time snce buying it ... and was faced with what looked like a whole pot of muller light ... it filled the whole filler appature i cleaned it out. looked at dipstick clean. looked in coolant clean. i did have gunk in the brether box a few weeks ago and had some great responses outlining these 903s tend to produce gunk.... but is this amount usual. i can get a head gasket test done monday but does anyone know if this locslised gunk is normal... prior to mr buying car i eouldnt know when oil was last changed but ig looks very very clean on dipstick and no moisture. any advice. please.

It could be fine...seeing as you have never removed the oil filler cap (always do this when buying a car!) it could just be a build up as was mentioned before. If the oil in the sump seems fine then just clean out the cap and keep an eye on things. Might as well do an oil and filter change as its quick and easy.

Lots of short start/stop driving? This can cause condensation to form with the Mayo on the rocker rocker effect.

I wouldn't panic yet, panic when you can see it on the dipstick and in the Coolent.

Hi and thankyou for replies. im On a night shift so hence time of my response posting.. As it was highlighted to me in a previous post I placed about this gunk being in my air filter breather box I looked at the running temperature of my panda again and where I was reading 80 degrees I realise its actually only getting to just 70 or with heater on full well below that. Would this low low a running temp also cause this gunk buildup. ? I also have to admit that during the ice and snow when I wasn't going to work I used to just run the car up and let it idle for 10 15 mins so I guess that wouldn't of helped either. ! Many thanks.

sounds like your thermostat is stuck open... or you are severely low on coolant

took car into friends garage today not head gasket failure test was ok. He said it was condensation , sump oil and all other signs were good. so echoes all advice given by members on forum, thank you all. (y)
