Panda (Classic) Pale green Classic Panda 4x4 (1986).

Introduction

Just acquired this lovely 4x4. :)

Traded in by Gavin (Palio) against the project Panda I'm currently building for him. Gavin bought it back in February from Dave (Aquamarine) but has not used it since. Fortunately for me Gavin stored it at a friends house many miles from his own so didn't form an attachment to it.

Dave had done quite a bit of work to it before selling it on to Gavin, and as a result it's in lovely condition ( ignoring paintwork issues here :p ), even has new doors. Dave, perhaps you could fill in more details for us?

This is my only pic so far but will add more asap........

I really like the pale green colour so will be keeping this original but improve the finish in places. This will be an easy task as Dave has done a great job removing what little rust was there. As far as I can tell the doors and back of the inner sills were the only rusty areas on an otherwise solid and straight Panda. This is impressive given it's an early Mk2 (1986).

Mileage is a very low 58,000, this is reflected in the condition of the interior and mechanics. I haven't driven it yet but Gavin and Barbara have and they assure me it is a real pleasure, with a strong engine and a tight and quiet gearbox. :)

With the plans for Barbara's own Panda recently changing I find myself with some nice upgrades looking for a home. The beige Alfa interior would look stunning with the green paintwork so I'm very tempted to fit it. Then there's wheels. I have half a dozen options here, including leaving the current ones on, so think I will just have to try them all and see what looks best. Other than that the rest will stay as it is.

It looks like we'll be bringing it to the Thoresby meet rather than put Barbara's 4x4 back together with it's original parts only to take it all apart again when we get back.

I did at one point think about persuing it as a matter of principle but decided my energies were better spent elswhere. The Polo came off alot worse by the look of it anyway. :p

Got her reg number? AskMID.com, pop it in there, a few quid later and you'll have her insurance details, go direct, explain what's happened and you've reported it to the police and got a witness and name your price ;)

I loved my Yaris, would have bought another but they "grew up" into a no longer small car :(

And I liked the interior, 'twas different, good cubby holes though :p

This is just like my baby used to be:

I think they changed the dash design a bit on the later ones but this is exactly what my friends looks like.

Poor Oslo!
Silly old bat.
I think that because insurance companies insist that if you are involved in an accident that is your fault, you must not accept liability, this has become an open invitation to the less than honest to either just drive away (as in your case Vern) or blatantly lie.
I think this is another matter that the insurance companies should be taken to task on.

Sorry to hear that - poor Oslo (n)

Stupid old fool. I think it's crediting her with intelligence to suggest it's the don't admit fault bit to blame - unless Oslo jumped out of his parking space it's never not going to be her fault!

If I'm being charitable maybe she was too blind to see the damage & too deaf to hear it. Otherwise it's just typical of the attitude in this country - no one respects anything & that includes a number of the older generation too!

If you have a reg number I'd definitely follow MEP's advice. I'd also be hunting the car I'm afraid - if in town was there CCTV as you can ask them to check for you?

Only surprise in all this - stunned it wasn't a Jazz - that's default round here!!

Yep, for that reason we've still got our mk1, had it from new, about to turn 12 years old, 162k later and she's still going very strong! :slayer:

Thats the one, mk1, pre face lift, they're on the mk3 atm, as soon as the mk2 got bigger it was too big for what my mum wanted, but I like the mk2's also :)Test drove a new automatic diesel one a few years ago, very nice. Can't beat Toyota customer service imo either. The Yaris must of done something correct, dispite your dislike, to have sold so many, and 90% of those sold are still on the road, a decade and a half after launch.

Oooops....just spotted this is not a new thread, but is Vern's members motors... I will tidy it up and delete the Toyota stuff..

(y). Is it possible to change the title to 'Oslo the classic Panda 4x4' as well Kev?

You don't have to delete the Toyota stuff, it wasn't really a problem, yet! I'm actually a fan of the Yaris myself. :)

Well Oslo's receiving a little attention at the moment. With Charmania (Charmanda) gone we now needed a tow Panda so Oslo is the new recipient of Charmania's tow bar plus new electrics. :) We're off camping this weekend with the new trailer so it had to be done pronto.

Also, ever since we've had him he's been a little skittish over bumps, tending to bounce sideways as well as up and down. He always felt firm on the suspension but following him to the Chiltern hills show last weekend I noticed that the rear shocks were a little week. So I decided to fit new Monroe shock absorbers all round. They were in stock waiting to be fitted to the blue 4x4 but as work on that one is a little way off they are now on Oslo. Problem solved (y), it's just surprising how firm he felt even with the knackered ones. With this done, plus the modified ball joint carriers to give more negative camber that were fitted a couple of months ago, he now feels very sure footed and even more of a pleasure to drive.

I will have a look at my stock of old radio cassettes today and see if I can make one work for him, it's a four hour drive to Shropshire and neither I nor Barbara can sing very well so Oslo may receive his first i.c.e.ever.

You used to actually tow things with her
That must've been speedy...

I towed my little trailer to the workshop and back once. It was empty and weighs slightly more than a packet of crisps. Then there was the 14 foot red and white speed boat that weighs slightly more than the trailer, to be honest I didn't notice they were there, and with Oslo towing them it's even easier. :)
