Hi all,

I’m after a bit of advice on my 2013 Fiat Panda 4x4 1.3 Multijet. I’ve been having some trouble with a recurring P0488 error and limp mode, and I’m hoping someone here might have had a similar experience or can offer some tips.

So far, I’ve had the EGR valve replaced, the DPF cleaned, and a minor oil leak sorted with a gasket replacement. The car ran fine for a while after that, but the issues seem to keep coming back. I get occasional ELD errors on the dash that disappear quickly. The real issue tends to crop up after driving on the motorway—after about 10 miles, if I turn the car off and back on, the check engine light often reappears. At first, there’s no limp mode, but I do notice a lack of power above 2,000 RPM. Then, after stopping and restarting a few more times, limping kicks in.

Has anyone else dealt with this sort of thing before? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. It’s a bit frustrating, this is becoming a bit of a saga! Many thanks!

If youve not already read it, take a look at this thread for some other clues…
I suspect the ELD error is unrelated

If it was rev limited, I would check the fuel and fuel filter. Might even bleed the fuel lines. Also check/clean the MAF, or just disconnect and see the effect. Lastly based of previous issues reported on the multi jet engine, have a general look at the state of electrical connections, on sensors. Obviously if you got Multiscan you can check other sensor outputs are coherent. Have learnt that whilst the codes useful they do not the complete picture. Some of the water seals not that great and corrosion occurs. Being disturbed seems to temporarily resolve, but problem reappears. Assuming all induction and exhaust systems secure.

Was the black bit changed
Was the silver bit changed

Does the EGR activate correctly with bidirectional software

Does the position on live data look smooth when it's being activated via bidirectional software

What the reference voltage to the sensor looks like on a scope

What's the ground voltage look like on a scope

Are the MAP readings correct

Pretty sure the revs are just because of the error code, I guess it revs fine before the error is triggered, is this correct

Not my car or engine, I am sure someone on here can point you in the right direction,

Do you have access to a scantool

Wow, many thanks for the replies! I should have some time this weekend to look into this! I don't have a Multiscan license yet, and I'm unsure how well it works on iOS or Mac since I couldn't connect via ELM.
