I was in someones car today when they pulled up at the industrial estate, and theres an abandoned warehouse with a BIIIG car park. He asked me to take his 1.4 Corsa for a spin, and I did, I drove shakily and cautiously at first, cause I'm used to a non-syncromesh gearbox.

But my rally instincts kicked in, I started driving more aggressively, powersliding the car, double-clutching instead of straight shifting, The guy was having fun... But One of the tyres blew, the rim buckled And we nearly crashed =\
I got out of the car, shaking asking "WHY THE **** DID IT BLOW?" And he decided to tell me that the tyre was below legal limit! So yeah, I kinda cracked his nose open...

Although... it made me realise, That I cant trust myself in a car even REMOTELY powerful until I've learnt some restrictions...

So, I'm going to get the Panda 750 =P

Yes... I know it was my fault, I should have got to know the car before I done that... And Yes... I know I could have been killed... I'm just grateful I'm alive, and I'm taking the time to learn my lesson.

Yeah, I'm a stupid 16 year old. But I'm gunna do something about it... Sluggish 750 panda for me please =D No, I'm NOT insulting the panda. lol

You can be just as foolish with 40 horses as you can with 100. I got my Panda (a 999cc powerhouse) over three years ago when I was 17 and had a similar mindset but there were so many dodgy drivers at college it completely put me off the handbrake turn at midnight scene.

Save all your energy for road trips once you've got your licence. Wales is good, as are many parts of Scotland. I've been all over the place and I've learnt a lot about driving in that time.

I'd LOVE to do road trips. but seriously, Today scared the **** outta me... Last time I drove a car nearly killed me... and thise time could have too

if you simply like panda's, then fair enough.

if you just think that cos its a small engine, you cant come to any harm, wrong.
you would be far better off with a newer, safer car, something with airbags, and abs.
oh, and power for motorways

It's not about how safe I am... It's about restricting how fast I can go, And how crazily stupid I can be XD
And yes, i very much LOVE panda's, they're fun to drive, Even at low speeds

woof. you are the only guy i know that has a desire for less speed
and all because of an accident in a car that was not road-legal.....

well, hope you find a nice example of a panda, i quite like em too!

This is just to learn some self control, After a years no claims, I'm dropping a 1.0 punto engine in, Then on the second year, A 1.4 uno turbo engine =P

Hey there, glad to hear your thinking of joining the panda world! As you say they are very good fun cars to drive, and low speed fun aswell. The only problem is that they crash and skid at low speeds too. Not too renouned for their stability and road holding is the problem. I've crashed mine, not at high speeds granted, but the damage was huge. They crumple and fold like a red bull can.
That asside though, I agree with your rationality. Everything you experience at dangerous limits in most other cars, you will experience at even lower speeds and more exagerated in the panda aswell. Like the idea of teaching on a skid pan (using oil slick and wet smooth tarmac).
This does bring me onto another thing, after my crash i voluntarily took part in an advanced driving course which showed skid pan as i mentioned before and also normal road driving where they assessed your driving habits. This is worth its cost in experience. And i now have a chance to race a ferrari round goodwood! woohoo!
Anyway, thats my point of view. Glad to see you've taken a mistake like todays in the right way. As you said it couldve been much worse. Glad your ok!
Cheers
Si

a 1 ltr panda will do 90 no problem, just get one of them and restrict it
till your ready to join boo doing 90 up southend seafront :p

A 1.0 litre Uno will show 110mph (big downhill stretch of motorway) on its very optimistic clock. And my 899cc Cinq just about hit 100mph the other day. Sure they lack power uphill and the acceleration over 40mph is a bit on the leisurely side but they can still hold their own.

As for Pandas not being as "safe" as a modern car, well, any car is only as safe as its driver plus you can still get killed in a big, mega safe luxury car. Just look at what happend to Lady Diana...

There are a few things wrong with this post, fistly if your on a car park it's a public place and as such you need insurance, so if you had been caught you would have been disqualified from driving prior to being of age to obtain a licence. Secondly there are several ways of being caught and the most common is bringing attention to yourself, by the way you were describing your driving you most certainly fall under that catagory.

If you wish to learn to drive prior to obtaining a licence get access to private land where the public don't have access and don't learn bad habits it will just make learning to drive correctly for the test more difficult.

As you are very new and all that, I shall leave this post here, however if in future you wish to point out what a crap driver you are:), please post NON PANDA chat in the Leisure Lounge:) Dont clutter this section up with non Panda items please:)

Theres a lot of this un-insured driving around Telford, as in most towns I spose, REALLY hacks me off!
