Hi All
2.0 Diesel Turbo engine.
I've got a leak from the rocker cover.

Can the turbo cause this issue?
What mythology would be used to work out what going on?

I believe its caused by high pressure in the rocker cover.
I've removed and cleaned the black component at the top of the oil breather pipe. (no idea what's its called as I have no parts list)Last guy knew about this issue because the had disconnected the sensor that comes after it.
I need to know what tests I can do to work out what's going on?
I know from doing petrol engines that this can be
1/Faulty rocker cover gasket ( which I always change first)
2/Faulty head gasket (leak down test/compression test).
3/Worn piston rings (leak down test/compression test).
4/ Blocked breather.( I've taken this apart cleaned parts in it )

I had a punto engine with this fault and it ran and ran well over two years before I bothered with it( Faulty head gasket), used oil. This one is bit different as the oil loss is a bit higher.

Im a big fan of the leak down test, after years of doing compression tests. Love buying tools, so would be a good excuse...

Follow your own diagnosis plan.

But :- Is it a high mileage engine ? Does it start easily from cold ? Does the exhaust smoke blue or white when hot ? Does smoke come out when you remove the dipstick while hot and running ?

I once saw a Perkins Prima engine that blew the oil filler cap off whenever the throttle was opened - it had a very worn engine especially cylinders and pistons, yet it would start reasonably well from cold, because they are direct injection.

The black part is the pcv valve.

Leaking rocker gasket is pretty common on the dw10 in cars so I wouldn't be too worried.

If you remove the oil filler cap and hover it over the opening in a good engine it will bounce up and down, if you have too much crankcase pressure you will have a new positive pressure blowing upward.

Yes

No

Will check this after I reassemble gearbox.

The black part is the pcv valve. Thank you

I want to do compression tests on the engine after I finish the clutch.
I cant do the leak down test using my current kit as I do not have access to a compressor at the minute. I will be making some hoses up so that I can fit a vacuum pump to the leak down test gear.
I am planning to change the oil seal first, clean the engine off and take it to an mot. As I read they are getting funny about oil leaks these days. was hoping to have done this job by now but the weather stopped play...

Just thinking out loud....
Why would you disconnect the sensor after the pcv valve.

Would it make the oil light in the dash come on all the time etc?
I know that they where being cheapo, and I should have spotted this, but hay oh. I do like to take them to bits, That way I know where the vehicle is mechanically.. When I finish with them some one will get a bargain...
I will swop all the injectors, out pump, head gasket, cam belt etc
I've already got the injectors and pump sorted. I like to go through them and make sure everything does what it should and is in a serviceable condition that way this one will be on the road for a few more years...
In the process I learn a lot and get a load new tools lol,,,
