General Nos how far can I go?

This all sounds highly do able and im looking very forward to getting a system like this setup.

Do you think a two bottle setup would be over kill? Like two 11lb bottle side by side that were plumbed together.

Also the fuel pump issue. Will the fuel pumps previously mentioned fit directly into the tank with no issues? Is there a direct fit pump that will provide like 3 bar?

bottles...depends what your using the car for, drag racing.....over kill, and extra weight, take a spare with you,but leave it out the car.

if your going on a big trip, then yeah maybe worth having two bottles.

Also a bottle warmer like Gobe's would be good

I imagine he'd be doing this :bang:

LOL, and I will say it again, there is NO SUCH THING AS A 3BAR FUEL PUMP, the regulator sets pressure not the pump so you could stick a Bosch motorsport pump rated at 5bar in there and it would still regulate at 0.8-1.2bar on a SPi car unless you ditched the standard regulator and ran a different one, there thats better breath easy again :D Although I do accept that people will refer to them in Cento's terms as 3Bar, on other makes of car you tend to refer to pumps in L/hour

TBH the fact the standard pump is made by Walbro, I am pretty convinced that it would run at 3bar anyway if the regulator was set at that as I can find no referance to a Walbro low pressure pump its probably just a low flow rate pump that' s regulated at a low level, what I have no idea of is its flow rate is i.e. L's per hour. The fact its low level pressure probably means pump has an easy life as even though Cinqs are old now you don't here of pump failures, yet on other cars that run higher pressures, fuel pumps do fail maybe because they are asked to work harder.

Just look at how many pumps are listed on fleabay for other cars to get an idea, they wouldn't be listed if there was no market for them.

With 0.020" gas/0.024" fuel (20bhp on the rollers!) jetting you'll be looking at around 10lb bottle in about 7 min... Rob was running 16s quarters on around 100bhp iirc. So that's what 25 runs down the strip or about 15min to 20 min on track, assuming 33~50% of your time at WOT which I think is optimistic.

Oh for the record the previous owner of my kit was using the stock Cinq fuel pump at standard pressure and larger fuel jets to get to 100bhp.

All the info so far is much appreciated. Is it possible to adjust the cinq standard presure regulator?

Been speaking to a bloke today who can provide me with a 50 liter cylinder of Nitrous Oxide at £243 (inculding vat) thats just for the gas and then there is £95 a year rental fee for the cylinder.

Does this sound cheaper than getting refills at a motorsport shop?

No idea what Nos costs, but that's 4 or 5 times what I pay for pure argon. I realise the Nos bottles are aluminium (or, rather, the motorsport ones), but a 50litre bottle of Argon is more than I can lift any distance -- in practice you roll them on edge -- (call me weak) and probably the largest bottle I can get in the Cinq.

Might be worthwhile talking to Air Liquide or Air Products, but the big issue is the aluminium bottle and who owns it.

Sorry i didnt mean i was going to use a 50 liter bottle in a car. I was going to refill the smaller 11lb cylinders by siphoning the contents of the 50 liter bottle into the smaller 11lb cylinders.
I am aware that in realtity i will only fit about 7lb of nitrous into a 11lb cylinder without a pump.

You're certainly on the right track, getting a large cylinder and refilling the car bottle it from, this means you can fill DOT stamped bottles which come in larger sizes, though they should be exported to the US be refilled.

One thing you need to make sure is you get hold of the best quality nox the supplier can deliver & always use that (if you change the quality then you need to re-jet/map the fueling again).

Nitrous price is in the £3.50 to £5.50 a lb range from tuners, I duno how much per L that comes out at.

Will no motorsport shops refill the DOT approved bottles then?

Kind Regards

Well it's more that it has to have the EU 'PI mark' standard, but the short answer is no, it's illegal.

The problem is iirc US (DOT) and EU standards specify threads to be used, of course there is no cross over between the two standards so a bottle is either US or EU standardised. iirc the DOT standard is a little tougher in some areas so safety isn't compromised.

Obviously i will be using this system for "track use only" so should not be an issue. Dont really plan on leaving the bottles connected in the car only have a spin with it now and again.

I want the 50 liters of the stuff to sell to mates tho. Whats the cheapest PI marked kit? ive only found the one from Wizards of NOS so far.

Just need a PI marked bottle and valve then you're sorted. Honestly though I know several people using DOT bottles and the only problem is you can't get it filled up by tuning companies which can be a problem on trakdays if you drink it quickly.

And obviously insurance companies only cover certain brands of system for "on-road" use :)
Insurance companies don't care, I've got insurance and was never asked what brand only the approximate power gain of the kit.

what insurance company did you use how old are you and what did they charge on the premium for the nious kit? cheers for all the help so far.

I'm 28, I used HIC, who charged me £360ish and would let me set the car up for 129bhp total output without notifying them of power increases as long as no other modifications were made to the car.

Do you think being 19 with 0 no claims 1 non fault accident and 18 months driving experience they will insure me with NOS?
