Oh and my boss has the Volvo S40, a pretty quick motor but the interior would defo win me over! Very nice!

Never driven a Volvo myself but sat a fair few over the years at motorshows and the like. Have to say the seats are brilliantly comfortable and the general dash/quality is right up there. Meant to have cracking stereos too. Of course, I'd get a T5R and hope the electrics don't go caput

And Rich, I wasn't sure if you were considering a 156GTA. I threw the Stagea in as a bit of a wild card, but figured you'd maybe want something new(ish). Saying that though, the 156GTA SW is a rather nicely proportioned estate though. Can get them for well under £10k as well though not sure about running costs.

I really dont like accords, and how many type r accords do you see on the road? They are too sensible, I find them boring and the only redeeming feature is that the engines seem reliable.

whats that got to do with the price of salami? Oh, i see. The type r isn't commom enough in your opinion to warrant mentionng it existence there by rendering your point pish :p

screaming vtec engine, super slick gearbox and in type r spec, a chassis regarded as one of the best front wheel drive handlers of its time. not really what old people look for, thats before we get onto its sports seats, jarring ride and huge rear wing.

the fact you dont see too many is another plus point

I'm entitled to my opinion and for your information my friend that runs the hospital radio owns one. I'm not doubting that it handles well or goes like stink but I just feel they look a little mature for what it is, and would rather own the civic type r by a country mile between the two!

But I like one thing and you like another but doesn't mean either is right!

im not arguing your opinion/likes/dislikes, i was pointing out that your point of not seeing many on the road was a strange one to make in the context of it being a boring oaps car or not.

Right lets sort this out now Mark, ming never mentioned about the type r accord, he was on about accords so being an ex-carkpark attendant as well as a carwash attendant/car valeter(parents owned a very successful business contracted to a lot of main car dealers in moray) in my experiences I've never seen a young person drive around in them, even in the type R guise. My friend who owns one is in his 50's although he admits it's his Sunday car(he owns a security firm and uses a fiat doblo for work). Granted that it has been a few years since being in the valeting business but Honda cannot seem to get out of the perception of being for old people, civics seem to be the exception to the rule for some reason. I'm no way blinkered in my views, in fact clarkson agrees with me?

once again, i have not said i am saying your view/likes/dislikes are wrong

saying "lets get this sorted" implies there is an argument. there isn't. it's all about opinions and that's what we both have. we are both entitled to them and they arent as far removed as you are making out :)

fwiw i agree accords have the image of an older persons car, however in bringing the type r into the discussion, i was showing that the image for that model is perhaps unfair on the car as it's pretty far removed from what your average oap would look for when buying a car (comfort, value for money, ease of servicing, cheap to run etc)

just because you havent seen a younger person drive one doesnt make it an old persons car. hell, i know of a nun that drives an escort cosworth, it wouldnt make me suddenly think it was an oap car!

at no point have i said you are blinkered, once again you are either finding an argument that isnt there or reading whats being said in the wrong way.

seeing as the word blinkered has been brought up though, it actually hits the nail on the head about the car buying public. because of that perception people have, the accord type r never got the recognition it probably deserved. that is the very definition of blinkered, refusing to look at something for its merits instead focusing on a perception. hence why the type r was never a success, its the exact same with fiats, the public would rather shun them in general because of what they are rather that focusing on how good the are (sometimes) :p

hopefully that clears things up :)

Funnily enough there's a red one sits at the bottom of my road with two bean cans sticking out it's arse! Think it's someone off CWC. Not a fan of them tbh

Well it's going to be a vRS, likely to be an estate instead of the hatch. Got till the end of the year to find the right place to do the deal :)

My brothers wife has the fabia as a company car in Prague and was picked up by her the last time we went over, it's not a bad motor for a skoda, totally changed days from the buckets they used to sell, and one of the theatre reps at my work has the vrs version and assures me it flys! Lol

Hope you enjoy ;)

I do remember on Top Gear, the mk1 Fabia vRS going up against a MINI Cooper and it won by a bit of a margin. I've seen them easily tuned to 180hp and above and the usual VAG mods like Porsche alloys and such, almost tempted to get one myself :p

Good luck with the Octavia Rich, hope you get a good deal on it

All being well with the finance, we should be picking up Gill's new family wagon by the end of the week an it's something that we'd never considered till last night. Been for quick check and blast tonight and dealer showed us all the right numbers and a deal was done. Gona be gutted if it falls though!

Finance agreed on a Chelsea tractor, BMW X3 2.0L SE, 05reg Black. Cracking spec, leather interior with electric heated front seats, F+R parking sensors, climate control an lots of other gadge that al have to find out how to use. Hopefully picking up on Friday ready for road trip to Newcastle on Saturday
