Can anybody point me in the right direction. I have a burstner 2.8 jtd camper.
I have heard these vans are suposed to be quiet noisy in the cab. But what is nosiy. Mine as done about 70K Km and it seems really noisy in the cab but i have nothing to compare it with. When driving along it just seems like transmission noise travelling through all the steel parts i.e doors floor etc because when i dip ther clutch it is bliss not a sound.
I have read through this section hoping for some answers but unfortunatly haven't found any.
I keep reading about troublsome gear boxes though and thought errrmmm is this the cause of the noise. But i have no difficulty in selecting gears and it has never jumped out of gear.
So my question is:

Are these vans with this size engine normaly quite noisy and does anybody know of any sound proofing i could buy????

Thank you

In my opinion, all these vans are relatively smooth and quiet. You dont say how old yours is, the model jsut before the last change in 2006 claim noise levels in the cab as being 3dB (ie not much) noisier than an average big car I believe. If yours is excessively noisy, maybe there's something wrong. Without hearing it or getting a more accurate description of what it sounds like, it's a bit difficult to say though. Maybe it's something like an engine bearing if it stops when you press the clutch, that more or less rules out transmission and the actual engine unless maybe cv joints making it vibrate. It could be something simple like a rubber boot or bung in the bulkhead loose or missing. I think you'll find there is already a fair amount of soundproofing fitted. A company called Noisekiller do specialist kits for a price !

Hi thank you for your reply. I have actually just got back from Noise Killer, it is based fairly near to me. I have heard good things about the kits they supply. My Van is a 1998. Most of the noise it makes is at about 60-70mph. If you put your hand against the bare steel on the door you can feel the vibration. Like a say if you dip the clutch the noise level is 100% better. But obviously there is no torque on the engine. I will try the things you have suggested i.e look in the bulk head. i don't have any problem other than the noise. the gear box works perfectly there is plenty of power, its just seems the worst on the motorway. Thankyou very much for your reply. What other description could i give you to help diagnose the problem?
