Went out this morning to start the Bravo to let it run and heat up whilst I defrosted the windows etc. Got in the car and tried to start it and it refused to start. It just turned over and over and over. Twice I tried starting it with no success.

I then put the accelerator pedal to the floor and turned the key and this time it came to life as normal  A slight splutter as it started but I put it down to being a very cold start. But as soon as it fired up it ran as smooth as normal.

It was the first very cold night here. It's been below freezing over the past few weeks (-2), however, this morning was the first bitterly cold night (was -6 on the dash when it eventually started) and it was a severe frost as well over night. Thought it had snowed at first it was so bad.

What do you think the problem was? Or is the Bravo going to be a bad starter in really cold mornings? Living in Scotland through the winter the mornings at 7am etc when I am heading to work are regularly around the -3 to -6 range if not lower sometimes so having the Bravo struggle to start in these temperatures is not good.

There's a Bravo (tjet I believe) in the Fiat garage near me which is a intermittent starter. Fiat are investigating.

I've never had a single problem in the year I've had mine. Only this morning.

I'm wondering whether it's starting to look for a service? Maybe the spark plugs are needing changed.

It's due the 18k service in the next 1k miles (just clicked over the 17k.)

I did have a bit of a problem with my multijet for about three weeks, being slow to start. The engine turned over fast enough, but it was reluctant to fire up unless it had a second dose of glow plug, then it ran perfectly. The problem cleared up when I had run the tank down to about 8 litres, and filled up with a fresh tankful. Put it down to a tank of Tesco's value!!!

Well this morning again it was the exact same. A struggle to get it started.

However, all day it started fine at first attempt and even sitting at work for 4 or 5 hours in the freezing cold it started no problem again.

What it is with the cold mornings

Never had any problem like this before in any car I've had before :bang:

if pushing the throttle pedal solves the problem, then what's the big deal?

a quick plug at the dealer's computer will reveal the fault.

It's not working correctly that's the problem

If you buy a new house and the builder forgets to put the windows in and on a windy day you freeze. Are you happy to just put a jacket on because it keeps you warm and forget about the missing windows?

Nope you try find out what the problem is and fix it. Hence why I asked if anyone knew what the problem may be?

Yes a quick plug in to a dealers diagnostic computer will maybe find the fault but with the first available slot being 2 weeks from now I thought I'd maybe try see if i could source the problem in the mean time

Sorry for bothering you on what I thought was meant to be a forum where people come to seek help and advice!!

my bravo had the same problem and changed the battery and never had same problems...i explain it with the fact that all the power went to the starter and none for the ECU...ecu doesn't work under 8-9 volts...winters here are -25 degrees and my bravo (1.4 12v 150.000 miles) always start from the second round and fast! my concern is the battery...last year i had to leave for work at 4 in the morning -30 degrees and the battery dead...hopefully a neighboor helped push the car and start it...this year same thing..new battery..sometimes it goes and goes and goes and the car doesn't fire up...will take a swedish battery next time..they know of winter
