Well I have just received my car back from Pulse Audio (Hadleigh, Essex) and they have upgraded the speakers in the front with MTX Audio, rears with Alpine axial's, Alpine booster Amp with separate alpine sub with its own amp and everywhere dynamatted and sound proofed/deadened (is that right word?). and it sounds amazing, I didnt want to lose the blue and me at the moment so I left the HU and I was so worried that just making these changes was not going to make a difference buy how wrong I was. I recommend anyone who listens a lot to their car stereo should at least upgrade the speakers and get the door sound proofed it makes so much difference, dont get me wrong I will be paying for this all for the next millennia but even my wife was pleased and said she could hear the difference while listening to the Archers. The Fiat HU is not that bad but the speakers are pants, I am so glad I didnt/was allowed to choose the Interscope option by Fiat.

Nothing wrong with the interscope. Sounds like this solution has worked out well though :)

Yep the standard HU's get a lot of slack, but TBH there isn't that much to be bad about it, if you're taking the load off it's amp. Amp S/N will be way higher than dynamic range of the car by the time road noise is taken into account, and amp distortion without the bass load will probably be 1/10th of that produced by even the best speakers.

Sounds like you're very pleased with the results nicks500. Could you give us some ballpark on the costs of this setup.

ok well the most expensive bits were the speakers as I didnt want the doors touched again after the install so they installed MTX Audio THS652 in the front and Alpine spr-60 in the back and lots of sound deadening. Plus the amp (ktp-445) and sub it came to £840. I know thats a lot to spend without even upgrading the HU but I am looking to get a DAB unit and the JVC unit at the moment is the best and I dont really like the looks of it. When alpine bring a dab unit out again I will get that

hmmmm interesting, price seems a bit high, I paid £740 for 2 Vibe 10inch Subs, each with a Vibe 300W amp, wiring kit and a 4 channel 800W Alpine Amp, with the boot sound proofed for my skyline.

Im definitely interested in getting the 500 done as well.

Do your doors make a really satisfying 'thunk' when you close them now? :p Every time I've soundproofed the doors on one of my cars it's made the closing sound really pleasing!
