Hi All,

I'm a new owner of a Supersport Evo Punto that I aim to sell on in the next two months. Is there anything specific to look for as failure/wesk points, car is a 2014 and has 51k on the clock.

I'm not sure about the 2013 version (because of the Euro 6 EU norm, production was stopped late 2013, I believe, and there are no 2014 versions).

Known issues with earlier (2010) versions of Punto Evo performance cars were
  • Water ingress in the rear bearings, leading to multiple early failures (can be amended by installing an O-ring from Opel on the inner side of the bearing as some of their cars share the same problem and they actually found a solution)
  • Front suspension, material weakness in the shock absorper springs leads to a reduction of lifetime to about 6 years or 120 000 km
  • Multiair unit failure, however they changed this in 2012 already, so the problem might no longer occur with later cars
  • Alternator failure
  • Water ingress somewhere at the level of the rear hatch (boot)
  • Loss of function of the amplifier circuit in the radio antenna socket, leading to loss of reception of FM signals
  • Material weakness in the front radiator involving fissures likely triggered by high coolant pressure from max RPM runs on German autobahn (above 200 km/h, likely because of maximum liquid turnover by the water pump
  • Manual gearbox fickely (1st gear sometimes difficult to put in)
  • The hydraulic clutch bleeding valve might corrode and become non-functional

Thanks that's a positive start, I'm going to go through the whole car top to bottom it's a 2014 but on a 63 plate so will just have been registered late. I'm going to change the timing belt as it's first on the list so I'll do the water pump at the same time. Any idea what they are worth? I've been advised there pretty rare and only 130 were made.

About the price: depending on the year, the price was highly variable. The Abarth Punto Evo standard version with 120 kW of 2010 was about 28 000 Euros new and the 132 kW was only available by retrofitting the bigger turbos on it, which meant to spend additionnal money. There was also an option to retrofit a special, more racy Abarth suspension, I don't know if the Supersport came with that also from factory. A special TomTom GPS was also optional. All the options together would increase the price by almost 10 000 Euros, which was really expensive.

In contrast, this Supersport Version was available in the 132 kW version from factory. Compared to the standard 120 kW Abarth Punto, your car should have more value because of the more powerful engine and the later production date. The value is also heavily influenced by the total mileage. Honestly, I don't know what it's worth in the UK, also depends if it has a full maintenance documentation. I bet it should sell for at least the same amount the 132 kW version of the Abarth Punto would sell.

By 2012, with Euro 6 approaching, Fiat made an effort to increase sales of the newly announced Supersport version as only 2012, 2013 would remain for production and the model would then be dropped. They therefore decreased the baseline price somewhat.
