May I ask for some advice with the following.

I own a Multipla Eleganza 1.9 Multijet. The car was originally owned by Fiat and sold to my wife by another party who worked closely with Fiat.

Somewhere, somehow, the car sustained damage on the passenger’s front wing and a repair was made. This repair was pointed out to us when we mentioned the fog light was not working in the front, passenger side light assembly. When I took the plastic “cap” off the rear of the headlight there was a metal “blanking plate” (which is removable) where the spotlight bulb and bulb holder assembly should be.

I imagined that it would be a simple case of buying the bulb fitting and inserting into the back of the head light, something I have done with other cars, such as Fords and Alfas in the past.

However, I am informed that this “can’t be done” and a new headlight is necessary if I wish to use the spotlight. This will cost in excess of £370.00 for the headlamp and extra costs will be incurred for fitting etc. This seems a heavy price to pay to have the spot light working for what appears to be a push and fit application.

On the head lamps there are various notations as follows:

The drivers (probably factory fitted) side reads:
PL *Made by (Logo which looks like AL) *066

2177 *E3 *20 *00HC *00HR *02A *011a 02B*
** * * * * * * *→ * * * * * * * ****←

The passenger side (the replacement) reads:

Made by AL 067 PL

00HC 00HC 02A 011a 02B 2178 F3 20
** * * → * * * * →

There's a circle around the E3 and the F3. The cases are correct ( the little a after 011). The arrows shown above, (unless posting this message moves them) are in the right places and directions under the appropriate numbers.

Does anyone understand these codes? More importantly, does anyone know if I can buy a ‘push in” bulb holder and light bulb to insert into the spot light bulb aperture in the headlight assembly that has been fitted. Wiring exists for the missing bulb and the circuit works if a temporary bulb is connected.

Any help most gratefully received.

Can you post any pictures?
This is on one of the new models, yes?
You may be able to get a bulb holder (used) from another model and chop/adapt/modify it to fit, depending on your level of mechanical ability of course.
The bulb holder on the driver's side, is it removable, i.e. a seperate piece fitted to the reflector or housing in the same way the blanking plate is on the new one?

Dear BikeDoc,

Thank you for your thoughts on this. I shall look tomorrow and report back.

Getting a photo might be a challenge as space just allows one to get a a few fingers into the back of the lights which is quite crazy as it makes replacing bulbs more difficult than it should be.

The following photographs show the driver's with the spot assembly and the passenger side without.

BikerDoc,

I have sent you a private message re the photo's as I can't seem to make them attcah properly.

Regarding the removal of the headlight assembly it looks difficult.

Photographs as above

The lamp holder which has the brown and white wires attached which is held in place with the spring. The metal support that holds the bulb in place seems to be have a push fit on the plastic of the reflector. I didn't try to remove it as it was raining and I wasn't sure I would be able to replace it easily. The bulb and the holder is what I think I need to source and then it should be possible to push fit the assembly and wire it up. This must be what happens when the units are manufactured.
